Dixie Chicks : There's your trouble

So are the Dicksy Chix from the dirty, smelly, six-fingered mutant-hillbilly-out-of-Deliverance side of 'country'? Or, are they just dyed-blonde Celine Dion clones posing in crude hand-tooled cowboy boots? And what slobberingly sulphurous demon-beast from the ninth circle of Hell inspired them to do a reggae version of 'Stand By Your Man' as a B-side? Jesus fucking Christ taking it up the arse from a 7ft tall car park attendant called Clive! Are there no depths of evil which the record industry will leave untrawled!?

The slick'n'sickly Dix are a vile abomination. What kind of arsehole takes the word 'Dixie' - with its associations with slavery and apartheid - for a name anyway? It's like a German band calling themselves the Auschwitz Angels. The South sucked. They got their asses kicked clean off in the Civil War because they were scummy Nazis. And God hates Nazis. 'Dixie' - like the swastika and
the Confederate flag - is a badge
of shame.

As for the pre-chewed, de-boned, plastic-wrapped pseudo-country muzak here enclosed - let's just say that it makes The Corrs sound like Anal C--. Talking of which - can you believe the rapturous reception Texas got at Glastonbury? Who let these people in? Dress-code-enforcing huge snob bouncer at the gates next year, please!

Steven Wells always wrote his reviews like that. I remember a hysterical review of a Barenaked Ladies album once.

Wonder what he does now...

Here it is, I LOVE this review!

Barenaked Ladies - Maroon

OK, Friends: razor sharp script, dead funny and all that, but deep down it sucks, right? Why?

Well, for a start, whenever Ross bangs on about dinosaurs the rest of the cast make jokes about how boring he is. No way! Dinosaurs are both ace and infinitely interesting. And then there's that episode where Rachel persuades a lass to shave her gurly hair so that Ross won't find her attractive any more.

Duh, that's so straight! Total 'comedy-of-conformity' bullshit. And then there's that excruciatingly embarrassing scene where our chums get terrifically excited when they score tickets for a - wait for it! - Hootie And The Blowfish concert!!!! The bastards are actually as ridiculously, tastelessly square as the hero of American Psycho - except that in Friends this squareness is presented without any irony whatsoever. Uh, so why are we talking about Friends rather than the Barenaked Ladies, dude? Because they are SO FUCKING BORING! OK, here's some track titles - 'Too Little Too Late', 'Never Do Anything', 'Pinch Me' - and, guess what, THEY ALL FUCKING SUCK! Not just Weller, Ashcroft or Belle & Sebastian sucky but Mike & The Mechanics, Tin Machine and, yes, Hootie And The Blowfish sucky.

So how does 'Maroon' compare to previous BNL albums? Who knows? Who cares? Nobody with a smidgen of soul has EVER listened to one all the way through and this poor bastard hopes he never has to ever again. EVER!

With the exception of a few select Dolly records, the only country artist I really like is Shelby Lynne.

There was also a hilarious one for Celine Dion's "Treat Her Like A Lady". He wrote an Irvine Welsh-esque book.

HMV's new sale had some good deals on Country CDs. I picked up:

Martina McBride - Greatest Hits (£5)
Dixie Chicks - Wide Open Spaces/Fly Double Pack (£8)

OH just now it really is ALL about Kellie Pickler for me. "I Wonder" is just heartwrenching, especially live. Bless Kellie.

Do you know if that's the song she performed on AI season just gone? If so, I love it.

LOL @ that site :D:D

I hate girls who act like her anyway, it doesn't endear them, it just makes everyone think "YOU IST CLASS IDIOT". So contrived image or not she's a 1st class idiot with decent music :)

I bought Martina's on the strength of Independence Day which is an absolutely AMAZING song.

I had a listen this morning and I RATHER liked.

The Dixie's, I'm liking Taking The Long Way at the moment, but mainly just picked those two up to have Goodbye Earl and There's Your Trouble on CD. :D

In fact can we just take a moment to appreciate the sheer UNHINGED fabulosity that is Goodbye Earl please?

My favourite bit is the way Natalie sings "Go down to the lake Earl... We'll PACK A LUNCH!"

I'd have thought Martina to be a bit too shouty for your liking VoR!?!

Any opinion on the Dixie's "Cowboy take me away"?

Oh not at all! I LOVE a good shouty chorus!

Haven't listened to that DC song yet. I'm mostly listening to the recent album.

Easy Silence is LOVELY. :shy:

Indeed it is, though it's all about "Everybody knows" for me from that album

I love that song. I do prefer Cold Day In July though - I love the ending.

My fave song on Martina's GH is Wild Angels, although Independence Day is a more assesible song or whatever. Have you heard Where Would You Be VoR, I really think you'd like that one!!

Any opinion on the Dixie's "Cowboy take me away"?

It is lovely :shy:

I do prefer 'Travellin Soldier' and 'Top of the world'

On the more fun side of things I love 'If i fall you're going down with me' and 'Goodbye Earl'

There cover of Landslide can FUCK OFF though

If only Natalie hadn't opened her mouth Landslide could've been huge - I remember it went top 10 on pop radio which was their first pop hit. It could've gone even further

AND I LIKE IT.

Just bumping this cos I wanted to ask Christian what's inspired the Tim McGraw avatar

I am LOVING Martina still.

As well as Rose Garden and Independence Day, I'm really into 'Wrong Again' right now...

"Wrong again" is gorgeous, my 2nd fave Martina song after "Safe in the arms of love"

Martina Top 5:
1. Safe in the arms of love
2. Wrong again
3. Swingin' doors

I also had a lovely little STRUT to 'What's In It For Me' by Faith Hill earlier.

Actin' Nice then bein'
REEEEAAAAAL MEEEEAN!"

Everything by Shelby Lynne since 'I Am Shelby Lynne' onwards has been my favourite country-ish music. I do like some Nanci and Emmylou too.

Ooh Boys, do you (or anyone else for that matter) have 'Killin' Kind' by Shelby and if so can you upload it?

I LOVE that song!

Loving Frozen's Martina list. I also adore "Love's The Only House".

I'll add that & my other fave Shelby song, "Gotta Get Back".
