That was good, bits were too dark but for a big fuck off battle it was satisfying.

5 minutes in and just as i was growing weary of all the glossy getting-ready-for-battle shots wishing they'd cut to cersei getting a pedi from medieval lurch and tori amos makes a return *.*

this had better be endgame all over again.

it was meh for me too. for a show that killed its main character in episode 9 of its first season it was a bit of a cop out not to have any major deaths (though i'm not sure what happened to people like brianne the tart and jaime oliver).

and yes it was really dark, kinda overwhelming and a bit messy altogether. i didn't care for the dragon action or silly dany either.

did anyone understand what was bran doing with the crows? just looking for a better view?

all in all ginger minge was my favourite thing about it.

Not exactly an A-list clearout. I feel like since they went past George RR Martin's books they've become a lot more conservative in terms of major characters having total plot armour.

Arya's moment was pretty great, even if it made zero sense. Where did she come from?

i think ginger minge told her she had to kill some blue eyes so off she went to get the bluest of them all. she had to run really fast and go unnoticed but she made it just in time. phew.

also: i like how there was conveniently only one dead giant who simply had to face off with the bravest and cutest littlest girl. aww.

Yeah it was all a bit predictable wasn’t it. When the Night King walked up to Bran my friend said “We haven’t seen Arya for a while”. I said “Oh yeah, I bet she’s about to come flying out of the tree.... oh”.
I don’t think it was particularly bad. It just could have been amazing.

she was tortured at the hands of cruel people for a while but then she became really wise and learned the side eye

They can’t use dragons once the two armies meet, lest they roast their own people.

The Dothraki ran into the army and were more or less put down.

I wasn't too annoyed with the dark bits and was very entertained throughout. Melisandre's arrival was quite the surprise but those flame swords went out quicker than a match in a hurricane so ho-hum I guess. I'm glad her prophecy with Arya came to be though. is she Azor Ahai then?

once Sansa, Tyrion and Varys get themselves out of the rotten basement the politics can begin

sorry but you're all silly cynics and that was AMAZING

of course parts of the plot didn't make sense - some plot armour is necessary here because realistically the Night King and his men could kill them all immediately. but it was totally thrilling, moreso than any episode I can recall except perhaps Battle of the Bastards (but on a bigger scale here). I would have appreciated the death of a bigger player like Jamie, Jon or even Brienne, but we knew it wasn't gonna happen and what did happen was quite sensational enough. Theon's death was beautifully done, Arya winning the battle was incredibly satisfying and finally made sense of her 2-season long arc learning to play with swords with the Faceless Men, and there was such a strange and tender beauty to Melisandre walking out into the snow, tossing her amulet aside and embracing death.

Best scenes/moments:
-Arya incognito in the library
-Sansa and Tyrion
-Dany using Jorah as a human shield as one final fuck you for his years of unfailing devotion - it's what he would have wanted
-"What do we say to the God of Death?" "NOT TODAY."

UGH it was just everything and more. I don't know how they could've delivered more than that.

Also Dany with a sword and then crying over Jorah’s dead body was some good acting by Emilia.

“Theon, you’re a good man” is a killer line from queen Bran.

Night King was playing with the weather indeed! And dracarys not working on him was quite predictable.

Anyway, I loved the episode, I was so tense the whole time! The beginning where the dothraki attacked and their fire went off one by one was amazing, you couldn't tell what's happening but it laid out perfectly that they were all fighting a losing battle.

Some scenes could've been better, like why was Arya all of a sudden in a library? And they could've made better use of Melisandre's death.

I would have appreciated the death of a bigger player like Jamie, Jon or even Brienne, but we knew it wasn't gonna happen .

I mean literally 67% of us predicted Brienne to be dead at the end of that episode... so no, we didn't 'know it wasn't gonna happen' at all.


I thought as a piece of TV it was pretty astonishing personally though - I agree with Jark. I'm not sure what more people wanted - it was so intense throughout.

I guess I'd have preferred a few more deaths. Season 7 and 8 have both copped out on it a lot - I remember that battle where really Jamie should have died in Season 7. Like someone said it's like they've got more conservative, which is disappointing to be honest. How Greyworm, Brienne, Jamie, Sam (how many times did he 'nearly get killed' before someone saved him at the last second?), The Hound, Tormund, Podrick all survived that is really beyond silly. They were the front line after the Dothraki all got killed in seconds.

And I know it HAD to be the big battle scene- but that's 3 episodes with only one scene of Cersei in total. Definitely missing her.

Was SO pleased to have Melisandre back for her big final episode. She was fabulous throughout.

Brienne did death cry after death cry and I kept assuming it was going to be her last one.

All the slo-mo stuff at the end, I thought was going to be a montage of Greyworm, Brienne, Pod, et al dying one after the other... I'm not sure why they were so scared to do it. It really seems weird that they didn't kill more off - because it makes it look like the White Walkers weren't actually as dangerous as we know they were.

Also wish they'd killed off a couple in the crypt. They had no defence whatsoever, yet somehow they managed to all survive... With only 3 episodes left, there's literally no character who would be a major loss, so to kill off Jaime, Tyrion, Dany or Jon would have been really powerful. OR EVEN JUST FUCKING GILLY.

That was brilliant TV and had me gripped throughout, yes it veered in to stupid at times but some of that was spectacular

The weird thing is now that because literally ALL of the main/speaking part characters except Cersei, Euron and the utterly disgusting Qyburn will (presumably) be fighting against Cersei's army, the drama might feel quite limp - everyone in her army will be an extra, not a recognisable face. Curious to see how they overcome that...

I'm guessing there'll be one episode of aftermath/gearing up for battle, one final battle, and then the finale will be the dust settling and finding a ludicrous way to crown Sansa queen of the Seven Kingdoms and also my heart

I didn’t see the Arya scene coming either, although in hindsight there were obvious clues but I loved that she had a real moment

I'd hope there's SOME fighting in Episode 6. It would feel weird not to have any in the biggest finale TV has ever had.

I assume big battle with Cersei in episode 5 and then a struggle between Dany and Jon in 6. Or maybe it will end up with Jon and Cersei versus Dany.
