Debbie's autobiography is on the Christmas list for sure. Let's hope it's a bit better than Grace's.

I've just noticed it's out when I'm on holiday with lots of reading time. I've also just noticed they want £13 for the Kindle version. FUCK OFF!
 
It's bound to be a tenner in the run up to Christmas (aren't ALL hardbacks?) if not before.

I'm certainly not paying more than a tenner for it, unless it's at a tour or at least signed.

Has anyone else read the memoir? I'd recommend it for any completist such as myself, but I align myself with this review. Like it does feel as if it was written by a fan who has spent a Saturday afternoon watching her past interviews and cobbled a book together with a few new anecdotes thrown in the mix. She admits her memory is a bit shit but a bit more insight would have gone a long way. I was dying to get to the '82-'86 wilderness years but did not get much ("The Hunter went top 10 in the UK and top 40 in the US and included a rejected Bond theme" is about as revealing as it got). Most of the clickbait revelations we already know which makes me wonder how little involvement she really had (e.g. Ted Bundy encounter, Marilyn Monroe fantasy, Sire Records favoring Madonna and not promoting any of Debbie's solo stuff, stint as a Playboy bunny pre-fame etc). The actual mysterious events in her life and career such as her break up with Chris Stein, rape, stint on Broadway as a wrestler, Jimmy Destri's sudden departure from the band, etc were often glossed over or left unexplained. Arguably the most disappointing aspect about it is that there is little to no depth to her narrative on Blondie's music. She rarely talks about the making of any of the songs, which is surprising as she wrote so many of the songs. She rarely even weighs in on her preferences and dislikes of the songs aside from noting which ones made the top ten, number one etc.

I would still recommend any fan give it a try (the audiobook might be easier to get through with Debbie's voice adding a personal touch) but it is rather uninspiring for all the material they had to work with.
 
I've read a couple of reviews which said similar. It's on my Christmas list, but it seems clear I shouldn't have my expectations too high.
 
That’s a shame. I picked it up the other day but haven’t started it yet.
 
I wanted some bin bags on Amazon which you can only buy as some sort of ADD-ON so I was going to add this to the basket but quite honestly everything sounds far too scant and glossed over and I don’t want it if there are no juicy deets about one up the bum off Ted Bundy so I went to Robert Dyas instead :(
 
What on earth IS included if there’s no sexy Ted Bundy story, no unveiling of deets about mysterious events, not very much about the wilderness years and hardly any information about the making of the music? Something about fruit? A chapter on Sylvanian Families? FAVOURITE SPICE GIRL? :shock:
 
I’ll wait for the paperback I think. I’m strangely drawn to Andrew Ridgeley’s too but I’m more interested in the no doubt little bit about Keren Woodward.

Autobiographies by people whose reputation is already totally ruined and who have absolutely nothing to lose are always MUCH better and yes I do obviously have Christiane F in mind here :disco:

Maybe it requires not actually being famous to start with. Although actually Marc Almond’s ‘Tainted Life’ is fantastic, if a bit DISCREET on occasion
 
:D Why on EARTH has she chosen to include them? Does she say anything about them or are they presented without comment?
