Moopyvision 2010-2019 Round 2: Estonia, Italy & North Macedonia - RESULTS!

3. Elina Nechayeva - La Forza (127pts)

Where do you go after the European public has rejected the high art that is Verona? The OPERA, obviously. :disco:

Glorious, if a little on the empty side. The fact that she never went full Fifth Element and put a massive donk on it remains one of the great Eurovision missed opportunities.

When the time finally comes for my top 30 Eurovision facial expressions of the 21st century, Elina's self-satisfied "I'm FABULOUS!" smirk at 1.52 here will inevitably rank highly.

2 x 12pts (Buttertart, ameraal)
2 x 2pts (Jacques, Pingu)

That a rave version of Rockefeller Street became internet famous still leaves me a bit agog.

I hope she makes a bit of €€€ from it for all that hand lube.

So it's a battle of the duets in the top two. Goodbye To Yesterday vs Verona. Has moopy chosen taste, class and musicianship, or Elina and Stig?

The execution of Verona was terrible. Everything about the song was watered down on stage.

And those facial expressions direct to the camera were just plain uncomfortable and misjudged compared to "Goodbye to Yesterday"'s DEATH GLANCES of perfection

I mean YES, but it was also a COMPLETE COMEDY CLASSIC!

I think your autoreplace has swapped iconic for terrible. Please amend.

2. Elina Born & Stig Rästa - Goodbye To Yesterday (160pts)

6 x 12pts (Alla, Dark Carnival, Raining On Me, Penelope, Kevin, Kalabaliken)
1 x 1pt (Win The Game)

Unintentionally rapey lyrics aside, this is probably the high watermark so far for what Estonia can deliver when they show an understanding of their USP at Eurovision. Hipster Bond theme meets Lee Hazelwood & Nancy Sinatra, with tits for days and an impeccably-timed teardrop. :disco: I'm always surprised this wasn't more in the mix in 2015, but it was on pretty early and maybe it was just a touch too low key for the proles.

Elina Born will surely be back in due course, there's a huge air of unfulfilled potential around that one.

Speaking of which...

1. Koit Toome & Laura - Verona (194pts)

In the end, despite a late surge for GTY, Koit and Laura were the runaway victors here. If Modern Talking where a recently divorced pair of 30-something office workers, this would be the result.

In the end 'twas the juries that killed it, but considering just how hilariously awkward and ill-conceived the stage show is, that it wound up a tragic semi final casualty just feels RIGHT. My favourite element changes regularly, but I'm currently enjoying Laura's horsey hologram looking perturbed in the background while Koit death-stares down the camera lens.

Gone, but never forgotten.

9 x 12pts (kevin7, David_5000, Jacques, Superstylin, Ill Advised, Tetris Rock, sewerynsven, Ag, Suomi)
1 x 2pts (Win The Game)

Goodness though, Goodbye To Yesterday really is GODS ABOVE :disco: I can't really think of many more emotionally raw presentations that have ever made it to the Eurovision stage.

Lying here NAKED and STARING AT THE PHONE :(

PREACH, LOVE, PREACH!

Now the one you've all been waiting for... :eyes:

North Macedonia

10th: Vlatko Ilievski - Russinka (16pts)

There are two things worth saying about this entry.

1) It has perhaps the most crushingly misleading first 15 seconds in Eurovision history, after which it goes from drunk Balkan banger to 2.30secs of literally nothing.]

2) Vlatko died last year at the age of 33. I'm not saying he deserved it, but I'm not not saying that either.

Highest score: 4 (Dark Carnival)
11 x 0 (VoR, Pingu, Win The Game, Suomi, Buttertart, Tetris Rock, Ill Advised, Superstylin, Jacques, Kevin, Penelope, Raining On Me)
