Moopyvision 2010-2019 Round 6: Armenia, Iceland & Moldova

OMG she's ALIVE

And @Suomi, frankly, has some QUESTIONS TO ANSWER

Suomi is so full of self hate.

Did @Suomi vote while he was merrily pedalling on his TROLL TRIKE?

PERVERT

Oh! Just noticed that 12! Suomi?

I should probably explain.

Back at the time I was having an online relationship with a closeted Saudi official. My boyfriend had left for Australia months before and I was lonely, and this guy seemed really sweet and we soon agreed to meet. Waiting for that flight to Saudi Arabia was such an emotional time for me, it still resonates now...feelings of hope, confusion. And the song to soundtrack it all was Lonely Planet, which lyrically and melodically captured my state of mind at the time. The relationship only lasted three months, and two months of that I was trapped in his palace trying to get to an embassy, but I still fondly listen to The Dorians and their majestical Lonely Planet to this day.

Oh come on. We've all heard that one before!

6th: Srbuk - Walking Out (96pts)

Blessed with a name that sounds like a burp and a voice that could peel paint, this Jessie J nightmare truly had it all - minus any discernible melody.

Nice boots, I guess - though the way she keeps aggressively pointing to her vagina in the performance is rather off-putting. Ultimately, it's a lot of fire and shouting in service of a headache-inducing nothing of a song, and I can't even think of anything particularly witty to say about it. NEXT!

1 x 10 (Superstylin')
2 x 2 (VoR, Raining on Me)

Walking Out wasn't TOTALLY without merit but it was more or less Imagine Dragons - Believer but WORSE

5th: Sevak Khanagyan - Qami (106pts)

Oh, this one's actually quite nice in a boring sort of way. In retrospect, it's hardly a surprise that nobody could be arsed picking up the phone for it, but it's the first of these so far not to be actively embarrassing, so well done Sevak. :)

Now if anybody can explain that outfit to me, I'm all ears. An ugly dinner jacket stitched onto a chunky knit with bizarrely ill-fitting trousers. Was it another subtle reference to the Genocide? I JUST DON'T KNOW.

2 x 12 (, Zu Klara, Buttertart - I think I'm identifying your 'type')
5 x 1 (Ag, Kalabaliken, Kevin, kevin7, Suomi)

It was brave of Armenia to do a song about everyone's favourite Sky Sports pundit, but surely they should have realised that most of Europe wouldn't have heard of him.

Actually it was because it’s a very touching ballard, it’s much better than the other Armenian guff and it’s in foreign :disco:

Also I would :)

Since we're in Armenia, how amazing would it have been for 2008 Qele Qele Armenian entrant Sirusho to have come back in 2012 with THIS and gone toe-to-toe with Loreen :disco:

4th: Aram MP3 - Not Alone (117pts)

aram-mp3-armenia-eurovision.jpg

Hotly tipped at the time to be Armenia's first winner, Aram MP3's stage name proved to be sadly appropriate, as he turned out to be a strictly audio pleasure only on the night.

To be honest, even without the advanced case of jaundice and a lingering whiff of homophobia, this was always a bit overhyped at the time if you ask me. Easy to say in retrospect, but it really does take an awfully long time to get going. Passably stirring, but if anything 4th feels like a bit of an overperformance now.

2 x 12 (David_5000, Kevin7)
2 x 0 (Dark Carnival, wurst)

Not Alone was alright enough as a track but christ he looked unfortunate. Nano - Hold On took the formula and improved it a thousandfold.

MP3 really wasn't a bad song but his actual homophobia made it null and void. Still 4th is fair compared to some of the dirge Moldova have sent.

Moldova have been UTTER PERFECTION ALMOST ALL DECADE!

3rd: Artsvik - Fly With Me (154pts)

Ooh, this one was a bit ARTY, weren't it? You can well imagine Madonna nicking a hook from this back in the Ray of Light years. Assuming she could find it - as with Aram, it does take its sweet time waiting for the pill to kick in.

Sadly on the night, most of Europe had apparently popped out for a cuppa before it got good, but personally I think it's worth the wait. This is the sort of stuff I'd be happy to see Armenia doing every year. For a brief moment, it looked like they might.

3 x 12 (superstylin', Dark Carnival, Kevin)
2 x 2 (Jacques, Buttertart)

Oh Fly With Me was terrific on revisiting. And for my money, the gap between the top 3 of Artsvik/Apricot/Iveta and the rest was CACOPHONOUS

So it's a predictable TIT-OFF between lusty Armenian beauties Eva Rivas and Iveta Mukuchyan :disco:

You lot had no qualms about a certain AZERI'S homophobia but clearly it's a different story when homophobia is served in a better looking package :eyes:
