I mean it's just that some songs don't have videos at all, and those that do range from awful to great i.e potentially influencing.

That wasn't remotely fair so I based it on the songs alone

Decisions were made. I'd do it again.

I just went through them to make a shortlist. I picked 4 before running out of songs. Whoops.

Might have to start allocating points based on random things, for example if there's a zebra constantly staring at the camera.

I haven’t watched any of the videos only listened to the Spotify playlist. I didn’t think the video element was as vital as it appears to be from the initial brief it was all about the song needing to be on Spotify. plus I would struggle for the time to sit and watch them all but have very much enjoyed listening to the playlist on my morning run each day

Voted! A few corkers amongst some atrocious entries.

And as much as i really loved Kosheen (oddly the only video geo-blocked from the playlist) that was a definite album track, Spies from that album however was immense :disco:

I watched the videos because I don't have spotify (because principles) and it's no different to watching the performance/staging at the actual Song For/Euro/Melodi etc contests. Act like a wank and I won't give you points. In pop music, style and content are the same thing; there's no distinction.

I only saw the video for each song once, and it's been all Spotify from then on. The next three songs I've earmarked for deployment don't have videos at all, so I might have to make my own if they're a deal breaker.

Video-influenced voting is a bit of a VEIN POPPER for me. Song alone it should be
Don't watch them then! I haven't seen any of the videos; I have the songs in the background so just get the audio. But is anyone actually rating based on the strength of the video?!

I liked the Kosheen song but I thought the production ruined it, it was TOO MUCH

What a waste what a waste indeed

Omg I just realised at the end of the Greyson song it has a roll call of the stations on the Southern line to Brighton including Preston Park, right by where I grew up. Extra point.

Yes I pointed this out earlier. Nostalgia for anyone who's lived there. Also he's American :bad:

can't bring myself to vote, as quite a few are still growing on me. close to you and supalonely today.

i can help you allocate those extra points, @Indie :)

listened to a bit of kosheen last night as well.

ages, coming home, avalanche, hungry... i've actually seen them twice (sian was a force on stage, whipping her microphone cable) and i actually bumped into them at the beach after their second gig - i'm sure i've posted a picture here ages ago. it was a nice trip down memory lane.

fun fact: dana international was my first concert ever.

was it 2000 or 2001?

i really wanted to see janet in 1995 but i couldn't find a chaperone :(

I'm not saying don't have them! If there's a video of course upload it. @octophone is right, we'd judge Eurovision etc similar, but my point was in this instance something might not have a video because it's an album track but potentially be the best song there.

That's why I'm trying to vote on songs alone because they don't all have that option. I have seen most of the videos now and they do influence positively or negatively. The Cayman Islands song is a fun bit of pop in its own right but like fuck do I want to watch the video. Whereas Tessa and Leon are bumped up because of it. I didn't want that to sway my votes too much so just avoided them until I worked out my scores as it seemed fairer. But I'm not the song police, vote how you want.

everything matters obviously and as octo octy said why should we separate style from content? they are two sides of one coin.

why not choose an entry that isn't a shit song with a shit video?

You shouldn't - vote how you want. I was just giving my reasons which I didn't think were particularly weird but whatever.

Based on the videos of course I'm more inclined to investigate some more than others especially now I've voted.

This is why I wanted to do things a different way as explained in the other thread, so not using YouTube videos as it’s all about the songs as it’s not a video contest. I also wanted to go one further and have it via mp3 and not Spotify as not everyone uses Spotify and also, it doesn’t have EVERYTHING. But it seems it’s a no-goer as mp3s are too much work for some people. Oh well.

I'm REALLY QUITE PLEASED with how this has gone. For me the song only dilemma was a bit dated. As others have said they're just different sides of the same coin Why not make it a multimedia experience? We consume other music that way.

The Spotify limitations are far less limiting than other restrictions previously applied to the game, so it was a compromise I was happy to accept.

I do feel my life is better for having seen the Macy Rodman and Tessa Violet videos, but I moved over to Spotify after the first play through (which meant Tessa shot down the rankings). Surely it's up to each individual whether they want to take visuals into account in their voting or not. You lot are all about the PERFS after all aren't you?!
