And my tactics meant I stayed alive last time and ended up on the winning team!

In short:

Some people are mafia, some people are villagers. The aim of the game is to either kill all the mafia (villagers win) or for the mafia to outnumber the villagers (mafia win)

The mafia usually know the other mafia. The villagers dont know anything.

The game is comprised of day and night phases. In the day, everyone votes on someone to lynch. Majority vote wins.

In the night phase, the mafia decide in secret for someone to kill.

The game whittles down to fewer active players until a win condition is hit.

Some of us will be villagers, some of us Mafia. None of us know what the others are and we need to deduce and periodically kill off players from the other team. The gag is the Mafia normally know who the villagers are. Play until one side is dead.
