CeCe Peniston – Finally
Nominated by @Alla

Finally you've come along
The way I feel about you it just can't be wrong
If you only knew, the way I feel about you
I just can't describe it

1991, USA, No. 2 smash in 1992! CeCe wrote this song while she was still at school, and released it when she was 21. A bit like Kate Bush, except without the career. It samples ‘Someday’ by CeCe Rogers, and was named the no. 1 dance song of the 90s by Buzzfeed. Considering Buzzfeed compiled THE definite list of 20 King Charles Spaniels Who Can’t Even, this is obviously a meaningful accolade. CeCe’s surname means ‘Town of Penises’.

Sorry I swear I pressed played at 9 o clock and din't touch the playlist since, I don't know why I'm ahead :(

Hateful former Miss Lights Off CeCe reduced to singing Finally as a Wendy Williams jingle serves her right, but the song IS still amazing even if I'm still on a break from it. Definitely a career cut short with America not knowing how to handle dance divas. The Steve Hurley sound really suits her (I think the sultry He Loves Me 2 was their last collab?)

Anyway, other than that, the disco squat and bullying a 12 year old Monica are both what turned her spotlight on and off for me.

Billie Ray Martin – Your Loving Arms
Nominated by @straightorbroken

Sometimes the way that you act makes me wonder
what I am to you.
And sometimes I can't stand the way that I'm acting
to be part of the things you do

1994, Germany, No. 6 smash in 1995! Billie Ray Piper makes a second, much more triumphant foray into our countdown with this glorious miserybanger. She’s a former member of Electribe 101, whose song ‘Talking with Myself’ failed to escape its semi. She’s also worked with S’Express (no wonder she’s so fucking glum). When she appeared on Top of the Pops, the NME described her look as ‘Cilla Black on acid’. No word on what she’s up to at the minute, but I’m sure she’s having a thoroughly miserable time regardless.

Anyway. One & One is my only sub-5-pointer left. HURRY UP.
Don't you dare. With the long awaited departure of the penis lady, everything left fits into the 'proper, proper banger' category.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH

I was playing this song when @Diddy suggested me to do a Toy cover for MoopyFate, so I featured it in the video. Not that anyone cares :)

My earliest Billie Bodybag Martin memory is listening to Atlantic 252 on a car journey to Wales for a Summer holiday and my sister telling me BRM used to be a man. I've been obsessed ever since.

It always amazed me that Your loving arms was never a hit in Germany, although she did get a live performance of I've Never Been to Memphis gig on TV there. Not to mention an unforgettable feature of 18 Carat Garbage's title track.

Grace – Not Over Yet (Perfecto Mix)
Nominated by @straightorbroken

I'd live for you
I'd die for you
Do what you want me to

1995, UK, No. 6 smash! The vocals on this one were provided by Patti Low, which sounds like a reduced fat sandwich filling. Grace are Paul Oakenfold, Steve Osbourne and Jazz singer Dominique Atkins. Perfecto is also Paul Oakenfold, so he’s basically remixing himself, and not one fucking person involved is actually called Grace. This was covered by Alison Goldflaps, and the version by The Klaxons is surprisingly not absolute shit. Slightly less thrilling is the fact that it was also sampled by Lostprophets, although I suppose we should be thankful that they chose this instead of ‘Baby Baby’. Grace had a further FIVE top 40 smash! hits, and I remember precisely none of them.
