Dua Lipa - Levitating (ft. The Blessed Madonna, Madonna & Missy Elliott)

It's well done in terms of vocals etc (Madonna actually sounds great) but there's no climax at all and the chorus has no kick whatsoever. So it feels repetitive by 3 minutes in.

It’s cute, Madonna sounds not-awful and Missy’s rap is really fun. It’s quite MINIMAL. I can honestly see radio playing this for a week, then just switching to the album version.

But WHAT AN EFFORT to get attention for a post-album single release :disco: A total event single.

On second listen I can see this being a nagging earworm in a different way to the original.

The repetition of the chorus line without the disco behind it is super catchy, and the bassline that starts from the first few seconds and runs through out is really effective.

I'm on my second play and it's growing quite a bit already

It won't top the original but the entirely different energy it brings is appreciated. Maybe it's just a touch too sped-up. The vocal blending, new adlibs and Daft Punk-esque vocoder touches are fabulous

Am I just old or is it entirely possible to not just play a fucking song on Spotify if you don’t subscribe? I’ve hit play and got some random shit about four times, then it took me to some playlist I’ve supposedly created except I don’t know any of the music and then it told me I can only skip six times in an hour so SORRY.

No wonder I go nowhere fucking near it normally.

Love it!

Quite different to the original - it's more of an old fashioned remix, i.e. for the clubs.

I suspect the original may have more 'chart'/airplay power though.

Love them both!

There's quite a lot of Madonna, much more than I was expecting.

I quite like it, as an alternate to the superior original. Thirty seconds too long though (and it isn't often that is a complaint these days).

the album is a continuous mix a la Confessions so i don't think it will feel over long in that context.

Yeah I was expecting a bit less Madonna (NOT A COMPLAINT FROM ME NATURALLY)

It works really well even though I miss the original yeah yeah yeah yeahs! And the Madonna yeah yeah yeah give me Into The Hollywood Groove era vibes.

Surely it's only a matter of time until someone takes the Madonna & Missy bits and pastes them onto the original album version with the original Dua yeah yeah yeahs.

In fact they should include that on the maxi...

OH WAIT.

Oh we all know where this is going. :eyes:

At this point I don't even care if it doesn't chart too highly or whatever, if this means Madonna's voice will be heard on Radio 1 I'm fine (even if briefly or whatever). Sad state of affairs but hey ho.

They've made it more difficult for non-subscribers to have instant access to a song.

You have to sit through other nonsense and I believe a ton of ads first.

Ok heard it (thanks YouTube) and I LOVE IT! It’s really good! Not commercial enough to be the version the radio play but lots of fun and, as said, like a classic club mix of something.

I don’t get the Erotica reference and I also don’t get what is said about her ridiculously processed voice (that’s it forever now, isn’t it? :( ) but it’s really good. Well done all involved.

Well I’ll just go elsewhere then. Nonsense.

Overall pretty good. It's the kinda track that you KNOW will grow.

The sinister production is gorgeous. I just wish it was more prominent.

Missy Elliot was a wasted opportunity. What's the point when she just throws in a couple of non-rap lines?

Madonna was barely recognizable. She fits very well though.

I think Missy Elliott is FABULOUS on it by the way

Also I think there's possibly a Madonna sample in there - that 'giggle' in the background sounds like 'True Blue' colour mix but I think it may be from 'SEX'..

OMG the amount of comments I’m seeing online* that it “doesn’t sound like the original”...I mean it literally says REMIX in the title :D It’s a reimagining of the original track like remixes are meant to be..!

*not meant as a dig at moopy

Awful. The remixed production sucks all of the energy and melody out of the track. It's so lifeless.

this is where I’m at currently :(

It leaves me feeling empty. I also find Madonna’s voice these days utterly soulless. But that might be because of the three thousand layers of frills and effects she puts into her voice these days.

i need to give it another listen probably but it feels like all the joy, funk and sass that made up the album has been sucked out of this one
