Bad Kids is absolutely ESSENTIAL :D

it's all about that PROPULSIVE BASSLINE, the NONSENSICAL lyricism ("my parents TRIED / til they got divorced, cos I RUINED THEIR LIVES" :disco:!) and the SUPER STABBY SYNTHS which are like repeatedly being injected with a microdose of CRACK until your arm just fucking FALLS OFF.

I prefer the Fernando Garibay remix of Fashion of His Love but this version is actually OK too and includes that bit from the Earthquake demo. Maybe the key change in the end is a step too far but it's filled with hooks.

Highway Unicorn is not essential, but the chorus is an absolute earworm. the kind of breezy melodic nutrition she could shit out in her sleep back at the turn of the decade. in the verses the horses under the hood are working a bit harder and the engine is sputtering, but I'm still feeling the Americana road trip fantasy (if rural America was populated by mythical gay creatures rather than awful Republicans, natch).

Heavy Metal Lover (as I'm sure we all know by now) was the last song recorded for the album, like two days before the deadline for pressing CDs or something. just IMAGINE if we never got it. for a long time this was actually my favourite Gaga track - I really was a little wannabe leather slut (in my head only) to this anthem of life.

it's all about the cooing, joyous simplicity of the chorus, the I could be your girl post-chorus, the way it drops out for the vocal refrain and then the last chorus comes STRUTTING BACK IN in its leather chaps. ugh. what a CLASSY BANGER!
