Alanis Morissette - Under Rug Swept/Feast On Scraps sync listen (Sunday 7 March, 6PM)

3. Hands Clean

Her best song and lyrics

What a unique and uncomfortable subject for a song

What part of our history's reinvented and under rug swept?
What part of your memory is selective and tends to forget?

I fortunately can't relate to the actual subject of this song, but can to these lyrics
I think most people can

I remember the fanz being worried people would think she was singing the verses from her own perspetive rather than the man's, and think her a massive bitch

I've more than honoured your request for silence
And you've washed your hands clean of this

I have a complicated relationship with Flinch. I find it drags the album down a bit, and is over-long, but the lyrics are devastating and rather brilliant. The melody took years to creep up on me but I do love it now

She was famously booed off Loose Women performing it of course. Linda Bellingham threw an Oxo cube at her. Harrowing stuff for feminism.

They way she says "you effect me like you are my dad" kind of sounds like "you feck (fuck) me like my dad" and I did mishear it as that the first few times I heard it

I love the last verse. Always picture her running to her car and speeding off :D
