Watching the Let's Get To It Tour. What was the press like at the time? The dancers with the Blonde Ambition ponytails during "I Should Be so Lucky" :D

 
The press were outraged she was slutting it up for kids. And that she was ripping off Madonna.
 
She was roundly slated. The appearance of Jazzi P aside, it really is her worst tour. Cringe.
 
I'd love to see a full recording of the Rhythm of Love tour. The HQ clips that are on YouTube are great. Definitely a higher level of energy than LGTI Tour in the bits I saw.
 


For some reason only "Count the Days" is available in full HQ
 
The Let’s Get To It tour is what started as the Rhythm Of Love tour before the former album release and John Galliano intervened.

It would have been so much better if we had had that tour instead. It seemed heaps more fun.
 
Although it’s so strange to see Kylie performing in trainers AND shell suit bottoms. :D
 
A reminder to @funky that (when he gets around to) the Kylie Minogue album features a different single version for Where Is The Feeling? but also that if he wants the full BIR experience he should listen to the full Soundtrack mix of said song and the Big Brothers Mix of Confide In Me too.

First of all... what a fucking MAGNIFICENT album cover :disco:

I don't know whether to have high hopes for this album or not. The two main singles are both, well... they need no description, and she just looks effortlessly cool... I'm hoping for someone in peak artisté mode. But you don't really hear too much about it and it sort of comes in the middle of some no man's land between her two imperial eras. So I have no idea...

I reckon you’ll like KM. It’s an uneven grab-bag of artists she was clearly listening to at the time (as is Impossible Princess) but there’s lots to enjoy. Vocally it’s probably her best.
 
10 Confide In Me - As close to perfect as Kylie is ever going to get for me, really. Mind you I say that and I'm still not sure if it'll end this thread as my #1, probably depends what mood I'm in as I've never had a clear cut Kylie fave. But this is certainly a contender. Quite a few influences going on here, from Bjork to Massive Attack to, dare I say, Tori Amos? One thing is for certain, her voice has never sounded better. I started this thinking I couldn't possibly have heard the full album version, but I have, there was nothing here I didn't recognise. Just utterly glorious, and a pop classic.

09 Confide In Me (Big Brothers mix) - never heard this before, and it is wonderful. Love the trippy, tribal, Balearic ingredients here. Nothing beats the original, but I'm surprised how much I like this. Despite the melody being very much intact, it feels like a different song. It has a totally different feeling. Great stuff.
 
Be sure to listen to the single mix of Where Is The Feeling when you get to it, it’s VERY different to the album version, and one of my favourite Kylie obscurities.

 
It’s not perfect but it probably is the most satisfying album listen all the way through until Parlophone era.

My only skip is “Where Has the Love Gone” which is still fine just overlong and “Falling” does the same thing but a lot better.
 
I've just brought up wiki and discovered that it's mostly produced by Brothers In Rhythm, Heller & Farley and M People.

Fuck me, this is going to be a ride.
 
09 Surrender - Well, this is marvellous! :o ten seconds in and I was like, I'm keeping this. She seems to be bedded in somewhere between the retro grooves of Lisa Stansfield and the trippy pop of Saint Etienne, and it's so her lane. I mean, I get that the fans want camp Kylie, but she's so much more comfortable in this. Her voice always sounds so much better!

08 If I Was Your Lover - ooh some New Jill Swing :disco: this sort of sound was of course everywhere in 1994, but I had no idea Kylie went there. Much like Madonna (you could literally sing "Waiting" or "I'd Rather Be Your Lover" over this) she's been listening to Joi, Me'Shell and Jody Watley to get to here. Obviously I'm going to love this. It doesn't do much, but as a mid 90s R&B club track, I'm 100% feeling it.

God, what a start. :disco:
 
Aside: Is this Kylie’s sexiest era? I’d say so. She’s utterly breathtaking in all of the videos from this period.
 
08 Where Is The Feeling - OK I was expecting to know this but I don't recognise it? I absolutely LOVE it though, it's so Brothers In Rhythm it hurts. It's also very much the handbag house sound that was big in the mid 90s. The chorus sounds familiar but not too much. I don't remember it as a single though and I'll go listen to the single mix now. But seriously, this album so far is SUCH A VIBE! This is all the stuff I was listening to in the early / mid 90s!

10 Where Is The Feeling (single mix) - I don't recognise this too much either... still, also brilliant. OH FUCK IT JUST WENT UP A GEAR AND OH MY GOD WHAT IS THIS...fucking hell that strings/piano combo with the elevated vocal... and the gospel backing track. OMG OMG OMG. Jesus fuck I hate you all for keeping this from me for so many years. Reminds me of Electribe 101, Suncreem, K-Klass, also giving me "Land Of The Living" vibes by Kristine W... just heavenly. I don't believe for a second that "uncool Kylie" was still being rejected by the clubs at this point, there is nothing about this song that could have ever been ignored in those early club classic days. This would have been perfect for that sound, that era.

That was a musical climax. Imma need a minute.
 
WHY is the single mix not on the Spotify album? It seems to be listed as the Dolphin mix on Hits+ but I can't tell if it's the same version as the video. I HOPE SO.
 
09 Put Yourself In My Place - well this came at just the right moment because I needed a moment... I always loved this but haven't actually listened to it in a while. My memory of this in the 90s is Kylie putting out this weird trippy video and the UK being largely indifferent towards it. Was it a huge hit? It's very recognisable. I'm actually now not really understanding how this era was so "forgotten" versus her earlier and then later work. I'm halfway through the album and yet to hear even an AVERAGE song. And yes her voice is like liquid sex on every song.
 
I was a bit young, but I can only imagine how exciting it must have been for @Sheena @lolly et al when Kylie came off SAW and served up this absolute home run of singles, even if Confide In Me aside they didn’t do as well as they deserved to…
 
Put Yourself In My Place somehow stalled at #11. Baffling to me. Deserved to be huge.

PYIMP is quite the diversion from the first run of songs and yet it still feels very cohesive. She sounds very SOULFUL on this album.

07 Dangerous Game - I feel like I know this. Or maybe it just sounds like something. Anyway I'm not sure two slowies on the trot was a smart move, but actually this is a nice groove. It's not a typical pop ballad, and again has some R&B influences. Very lush and grand, like a Karyn White / Vanessa Williams ballad. Not a misfire by any means.
 
Love the vocal on DG. Kylie does a Bond theme. But as a song it’s a bit half-baked.
 
08 Automatic Love - this starts off as a Café Del Mar sounding chillout groove and scales up into something bigger. I'm getting acid jazz vibes from this, I could imagine Incognito producing this. Again her voice is KILLING IT here. She is not playing. This has grown on me from a 6 when it started. Genuinely AGOG at this album guys.
 
08 Where Has The Love Gone - Kylie does deep house. How could I not stan. I feel like I've heard this somewhere before. Wouldn't be surprised if it appeared on some Ibiza beach house compilation. I'm now racking my brains to think if Madonna ever did deep house? (not in remixes but as an album track). I don't think she did. The soulful backing vocals here are very 90s. This is very much a club track and can maybe see why some might find it a bit jarring on a Kylie album, but it was actually fairly common for pop and R&B artists to put a house track on their albums in the 90s. Maybe she should have put the 7" version on though.
 
Automatic Love is one of my very favourite Kylie songs, it's definitely a Sultry Gem™ to be sure.
 
I just need to take a moment and acknowledge that Confide In Me/Automatic Love/Finer Feelings etc are just 6 years removed from I Should Be So Lucky and Locomotion. That's just INSANE!
 
Despite the relatively modest sales, I really think this is the album that set Kylie in for the long haul.
