You chose the right singles for the tens. Love At First Sight is her best song EVER, I never tire of it its perfect

10 Slow - this was such a BOLD move after her global domination from the last campaign. So understated, so deep and broody, so filthy. There was a lot of this stuff going on at the time, but apart from Madonna most of the pop artists were still in a very different mould at this point and this felt very fresh. It reminds me a lot of Telepopmusik's "Breathe", right down to the video aesthetic, and she has lifted from Peaches and other similar electroclash artists that were huge underground at the time, giving the sound a pop makeover. The whole thing is a vibe. It was always going to be a hit coming off the last album, but she could have played it safe. With this, she absolutely did not.
 
10 - Still Standing - this is just RIDICULOUS. Too midtempo to be a single? I can't think of any other reason why it wasn't chosen as it's one of the best things she's EVER DONE. I have to stop and pay close attention to her vocals on here - not just the delivery but the arrangement. The soulful hooks that lean into the chord changes are SO fucking funky, the synthy layered vocals, the echos, the whole thing is ON POINT. An artist on total form here, and maybe the only reason this album was not as big as the last two was that she was maybe experimenting a bit too much for the mainstream, but nah - I think this song could have been a HIT. A HIT I TELLS YOU.

What a start. Although I expected it. Let's see how the rest goes...
 
07 Secret (Take You Home) - I definitely don't remember this. I'm sure I heard it at some point when the album was out. I'm sure I once listeded to this album in full. This is much lighter than the first two tracks but I like the production on it. Much closer to Madonna's version of electropop and you can very similar production takes to the "Music" album. But it's still a fun bop. Just hard to compare it to what came already.
 
08 Promises - oooh I like this. Shocked at how midtempo this album is, given her total dance-pop domination of the noughties thus far. This has a memorable pop melody and I'm really enjoying the busy, noisy production effects across all the songs. This is moving into that dirty synth territory that (IMO) ruined pop and EDM from 2007 to about 2012, but I've always liked some of it when it doesn't take over the song, and this is one of those examples.

10 Sweet Music - some moopers will already know how much love I have for this track. Possibly the greatest non-Madonna pop song to never be a single. I remember being shocked at hearing this for the first time, very similar to Still Standing the whole exectution is totally on point, nothing misses here. Strong enough to be a single IMO but who the fuck knows what the strategy was for this album. It's a total ripoff Playgroup's "Number One", in fact most of this album is a take on great underground French disco and electropop of the time, but when the sources are this good and the execution this strong, who cares?!

 
03 Red Blooded Woman - I don''t understand this album at all :D Sure, this song is a take on the tinny Timbaland R&B of the time, but A) it's a poor imitation, B) it doesn't suit her voice or vibe at all, and C) it sticks out as a complete outlier on what is so far an incredibly cohesive album... and to top it all off, THEY CHOSE IT AS A SINGLE!? This is a b-side bonus track at best. UGH.
 
07 Chocolate - given the 2 out of 3 choices for this album, anyone would be forgiven for thinking this was a Kylie R&B album. It's so bizarre in the context of some incredibly strong album tunes. Anyway, broken record aside, I don't mind this at all. I think I liked it more at the time, but it's still a great track. She's channeling George Michael here - George loved a jazzy backdrop and whispery vocals now and again. She couldn't pull off that sound like George however, but at least she doesn't try and keeps it simple. Simple but effective. The production on here is lush and makes the song.
 
05 Obsession - oh maybe it is an R&B album? :o oh Kylie. It was all going so well. This sounds like something Mel B would do and that's not a compliment. Cheap, basic and dull. I don't really have much more to add to it. Not her best moment.
 
I must I find the faux RnB rather jarring.

A more electro themed album with Slow as the benchmark would have been just the ticket.

06 I Feel For You - this is a bit better as it has a nice funk flavour. The vocal effects are a bit WEIRD. There's a nice crossover here between R&B and pop which fits much better as part of the album. So far though the first half of the album is like a different record - mostly just in terms of quality and delivery. This all feels very afterthought-y.
 
07 Someday - I was ready to hate this as well but her vocal is strong here, she's found a bit of form again. This again reminds me of George Michael - soundscape production, smooth vocals, interesting chord structure. Not my favourite but I'll take it as part of the wider album direction.
 
08 Loving Days - this title rang a bell and I do believe I've heard this one before somewhere. This feels very 90s, and I'm not mad. Strong moody production here, and the melody allows her voice to soar. I'm always a sucker for lush string arrangements too. No idea where I heard this before, maybe when I heard the album I kept the mp3 of this. This is a bit of a keeper actually, thing this will end up on my playlist.
 
07 After Dark - another R&B track, but this is UK R&B unlike the tinny American stuff earlier, and so fits the album much better. Sounds like something All Saints would do. Very understated but I like this, and actually could imagine myself really liking this back in 2003. Decent album closer.
 
So my first thought is that if you remove Obsession and RBW, you have not only a great Kylie album with no duds whatsoever, but also an incredibly cohesive pop album with some bold and interesting choices influenced by some incredible source material. Despite the misfires, this is still in terms of volume of bops, a winner.
