Baklava - WHAT DO YOU THINK?

What do you think of this sugary LEVANTINE DELIGHT?

If someone buys an entire pack, I will eat one, moderately enjoy it, and then not want another for a year.
 
I like it if the honey used isn’t flowery honey, which makes me gag. I have to have a nibble of someone else’s before I’ll give it a go myself.
 
I went to a café in a mosque once and they were bringing baklava (& friends) round on little trays and pouring mint tea, and it was DELIGHTFUL.
 
Top 3 desserts in all of history. It doesn't just hit the spot, it double penetrates it. But maybe I'm just biased.
 
God has always sent his best things to humanity via the Levant; Moses, Jesus, Dana and Baklava.

Now before you all say you don’t like it or that you can only take one bite; baklava is a broad concept, there are tons of different types and ways to do it. (The one pictured in the first post is usually not that good.)

In general, I’d say the Turks do the best baklava, it’s always perfectly sweet without being sickenning, and it doesn’t feel too fatty. And unless you dislike pistachio, you should always go for the pistachio baklava and not walnut…and what I think @Sheena means (and I agree) you should avoid those with rosewater.

My favourite baklava is the pistachio baklava where there’s pistachio in the dough as well.

I could never have enough of these 💚…. well, until I wasn’t allowed to eat anything with gluten. :(

I guess I’ve only ever had baklava as a souvenir from someone’s holiday, so probably not that recently made and I guess they’d buy the cheap ones

RS is CORRECT. These are also my fave type of baklava, especially with a side of kaymak / slightly fermented cream. HEAVEN!

I do. But some honey you can’t taste. So things like Honey Roast Ham and Honey Nut Loops are just sweet.

Baklava made with honey that just adds sweetness is not vomit inducing. But the flowery stuff really is…
 
When I worked in the hostel I had a client who was Lebanese who made his own baklava. And he used to give me some pretty much every weekend.

It wasn't as toothachingly sweet as most of the stuff I've tried since, so I don't know if Lebanese baklava is a little different. But less sweet, less drenched and with more lemon flavour.
