I need to catch up on work tomorrow so I'm going to do that in front of the funeral, but I have low hopes. We really were spoiled by Diana's Elton John gig, and the A-list guests of the recent Royal Weddings

I imagine the most interesting departure from your standard granny's funeral will be a gospel choir of some sort, to try and make it look like the Royal Family isn't INSTITUTIONALLY RACIST, but they may just cover that base with a diverse array of clergy instead.

Hoping for some good hymns at least. I Vow To Thee My Country and Jerusalem do slap

Surely the best coverage has PASSED?
The best visuals were when she returned to Buckingham Palace the other evening, in the glass topped hearse with the lights of London providing a beautiful backdrop.

So more hot takes after I've had a few hours kip and nursed the bloody pairs of blisters and sores on both feet (thanks Liz!). The most useless bit of information I learned was that they actually have a bit of a dust and hoover about the catafalque and coffin every night at 3am, replace the wreath and do whatever else supposedly take the best part of an HOUR. On top of that they have been rehearsing the funeral procession every other early morning at 4am, which mean the blighters out in the queue have their misery extended by a further HOUR AND A HALF.

More titbits: some of the Household Cavalry guards are both podgy and ancient and look like they might pop their clogs at any minute, yet still strangely don't seem real at all.

Kay Burley seems a witch in real life, as you would expect.

What a weird week.

I found out about the Queen's death while I was flying back from Madrid from a meeting, and I have watched most of this insanity going on from Armenia and Georgia, where I have been on holiday for the last week. On Tuesday, Azerbaijan started bombing Armenia, and when we arrived in Georgia that evening, we switched on BBC World News. No mention of Armenia; no mention of Ukraine; just wall-to-wall queue coverage. My bf was rather amused by it all, but I found it quite disturbing that in a so-called pluralistic democracy, the death of an unelected figurehead triggers North Korea levels of performative grief, and fawning media coverage.

There sounds like a million helicopters going over West London just now. Is this some sort of practice run for tomorrow

I'm absolutely watching the funeral, and I'll probably shed a few tears.

I'm interested to see what celebrities turn up, I know David Attenborough is invited.

And I want to see Harry :horny:

I'm going to imagine it's one of those things like on Spooks where the US security services want to take control of the air to protect Biden and the UK has to shout them down to keep in control of proceedings

I had a remarkably similar experience - The Queen died just as a was boarding a flight to Yerevan. My relatives were very confused about the UK’s constitution - at least until Azerbaijan invaded.

BBC World News eventually started featuring interviews with their South Caucasus correspondent in Tbilisi - she was very impressive.
