Water water everywhere so let's all have a Saturday

How often do you both eat fish?

I think if I put my mind to it I could go without meat. But whenever I've tried vegetarianism previously, I end up replacing about 50% of the meat with fish.

Annoyingly, Mr Sheena hates fish, so rarely at home, but when I'm out it's the first thing I look for generally. And in the summer, when we live on the beach with a BBQ basically, every night is grilled fish, which may be my favourite thing in the world EVER.

It’s not bad actually, but not a patch on the real thing. I enjoyed it for what it is, though.

Don’t get me started on the McPlant. Went to McDonalds for the first time in years a few weeks ago and was told they couldn’t substitute vegan cheese for ordinary. NO ONE NEEDS VEGAN CHEESE! I do love the Burger King Plant Based Whopper though.

Seriously, I hate how vegan and vegetarian are now tossed off as the same thing. It’s so frustrating.
I saw a video on tiktok of a man desperately trying to get a slice or normal cheese on his mcplant burger. He even asked to pay for a full bigmac but only wanted the cheese, plus a mcplant, and they refused to sell it to him because the worker thought he'd lose his job for selling a vegan burger and a slice of normal cheese 🤦🏻‍♀️

I rarely eat meat now. I never have it at home as I hate cooking it. And when I'm out I tend to either go veggie or eat chicken. I don't like much fish, hate lamb, pork, duck, any cow meat.

Mandys also decided she's lactose intolerant so we don't really have much dairy either.

I was with a vegetarian plus (i.e not quite vegan) friend in Burger King back in the summer and the worker there tied himself up in knots trying to explain the difference between one of their vegan offerings and one of their plant based ones. I understand they aren't the same - is it the cooking in the same meat juice business Sheena mentioned a while back?

He let her buy it her buy it but was repeatedly asking her if she was aware of what she was buying. I assumed then it must have been because they were afraid of getting sued.

I wasn't sure if it it was to do with the someone being dairy or lactose intolerant and that's why he was so adamant he couldn't sell it, because vegan should also technically be dairy/lactose free.

We get people in the shop asking all the time if our vegan/lactose free fudge is dairy free, and we actually have to say we can't guarantee it is.. although we add no dairy and it is vegan, there's dairy particles in the air therefore we can't claim to be dairy free.

We limit ourselves to one red meat a week, one white meat and a fish meal. Everything else is varying degrees of vegetarian.

I don't suppose any of you would be surprised to know that I'll happily eat KFC gravy out of the tub with a teaspoon.

When I was in my mid-to-late teens my gran used to make extra gravy for Sunday dinner and then I'd take a jar of it home to reheat and eat later. Before she died she gave the recipe to my brother and it's still a bone of contention between us that he refuses to share it to this day. I love my own chicken gravy but I can never get my beef gravy to taste like hers did.

I don't get the fuss about KFC gravy. Either the taste or the texture.

2-3 times a week maybe. I ate seafood every day last week in Spain, and would continue to do so if I lived there. hmph.

Why would he be like that?!

I literally drink gravy. I love it.

B&M do a good vegetarian KFC southern style gravy by the way. I have it loads!

If I lived somewhere with fresh fish every day I suspect I wouldn't eat anything else.

The times I've been to Lisbon I think I had grilled sardines with a salsa verde every day.

I remember the days when they had limited veggie food and we would ask for 'a cheeseburger without the meat'.

Is it the Mayflower gravy? Because if so, oh my god it's amazing. They do a good Chinese curry sauce too.

We've had to set up a glucometer to test Heathcliffs glucose levels tomorrow :zombie:

But we couldn't get it to work so I made Mandy try it on herself. She's a good bleeder! And not diabetic for a cat, so all good.

Yes it is. The Chinese curry sauce is also good- but not at restaurant levels.

Oh god, can you imagine if that's how you found out Mandy was a diabetic cat?

I know right! That would be a bad day. But at least I have insulin ready for her.
I bet you wouldn't pay a couple of hundred quid a night to put her in a pet hotel, though.

There is marvellous advert on a notice board in the Co-Op, hand written, that says in lovely old lady writing, “DOG CARE, £5 PER DAY. WILL HAVE OVERNIGHT IF NOT NAUGHTY”.

So bear that in mind.

Absolutely not. Unless she's insured like heathcliff is. Speaking of which, I've had his renewal through. £35 a month for an indoor cat!! I'm cancelling it in July if he's still alive.

I have yet another costume party tonight. This one makes sense because its halloween but ENOUGH

That’s so weird, I met my only British friend in Japan yesterday. He was saying his mum visited and brought him a 60-serving thing of gravy powder, and he drank it all within a week.

I was like :whatsthesecret:

He was bragging about his weight loss too, I wondered if it’s because he put on a load of gravy weight shortly before

DRANK?

I don’t think so. Is that sort of pre-purchase snacking allowed in the US? I don’t know if it’s just the Groceries podcast I listen to, but it always sounds like people are nuts there - customers mostly but staff sometimes
I think its generally allowed (maybe not officially but socially) to eat or drink something and then pay for it when you check out. I don't usually do this for food, but I might for a soda

Its also accepted that people will eat grapes out of the bag to try them? But I find this kind of gross

Well it’s not accepted by me, I feel weird about it. I guess the grapes would be different if you price them by weight but if it’s just a fixed price bunch then I guess it’s the same
