When are you switching your heating on?

I’m going to Spain for a week so I’ll be well nesh when I get back. The cunt can go up to 20 then
 
I was planning on having it on for half an hour before I get up each morning, but I can't work out how to set the boiler timer in the new flat :( So I shan't.

To be fair, it is. We only have it set to come on if it drops below 18 and its rarely kicking in. Usually a bit in the morning but we live in a fucking antique
 
4 degrees outside here. The heating is on full pelt and no denying. The fire isn’t roaring quite yet though, but will be in the next week or 2 I would think.
 
I am also sitting with a LARGE DRAMBUIE ON THE ROCKS to warm the cockles some more.

12 °C here now. I haven't even put the heavier quilt on yet.
 
We haven't got the heating on as our flat stays warm as long as it's sunny, which it has been.

But at night to drops, so I have my sloth koala bottle :disco:
 
Is this quite late for you guys down South? Is it milder than usual? I know here a lot try and hold out until October, but relent before as it is cold in the morning, and at night. I think I turned my heating on roughly around the same time as every other year I can remember.
 
Yes, I'm fairly certain it's milder here than last year.

Last year I remember thinking we'd do the 'wait until October' thing, but we gave in at least a week or two before the end of September.

I’m assuming you will just get a sudden drop towards November and the temperature won’t rise again until Spring.

Looking at the BBC weather map, it's not dropping below 8°c at night for the next two weeks at least.

But realistically that isn't going to hold far into November, is it? I'm quite enjoying avoiding the heating so far, but I won't be a martyr to it.
 
I thought 17/18 degrees was probably quite warm for October, but a quick google suggests that’s completely normal.

We are down to 1°c tonight and tomorrow night which I think is quite cold for this time of year.🥶 I know it’s always cold but it falling to almost minus in October seems quite out of the ordinary I think.
 
There’s been a lot of chatter around work about disappointing COAT SALES due to the mild weather.
 
Not sure if it warrants a new thread so will ask here. Do we prefer a hot or cold room when we jump in to bed? I usually open my window when I get up in the morning and forget to close it again so my room is always cool. I like to jump in to bed and cozy up to my hot water bottle at this time of year if I don’t have a man to warm me up.
 
I leave my window open at night most of the year, I don’t mind the cold going to bed, but hate waking up to it.

Always prefer a cool room. We have a fan in the bedroom and two open windows. Although without the heating on yet, the bedroom doesn't get as warm, so there's less need for extra cooling atm.

I know it's a mild autumn so far, but our house is colder than outside, so I'm using a hot water bottle at night.

We usually turn it on in October but this year was so warm we waited until 1st of November, the traditional day to turn in on back in the old days. Yesterday was bank holidays, which means nobody works on Monday either, and today they were too busy as they are swtiching on hundreds of them, so tomorrow. It's 21ºC now so we'll be fine.

So your heating is switched off by a higher source throughout the Summer? Most don’t turn the heating on throughout the Summer but if we wanted to we could have it on 365 days of the year. I didn’t realise that someone actually had to turn your gas on in Spain before you could use it in your household. :o
 
For the time being it's 23C outside so thankfully there's still no reason to turn on the heating and at night it will drop to 17 which is still pretty good and you can do fine with a light duvet.
The same goes with carpets and rugs, no reason to get them out of the closet yet.

We have central heating, it's a massive boiler? (not sure that's the right word for this) for the whole block, 100 flats, and someone comes to turn in on now (and off when we have nice weather again). There is a thermostat so it will probably swith off for a few hours during the day until it's colder.

So lucky! We already have extremely cold weather at night, with temperatures droping to 5ºC. During the day it's fine.
 
Still no hearing for us at home. Just a thick dressing gown today.

We also don't have out electric blanket on yet which is unheard of. And we've not needed the hot water bottles.

I imagine that'll change soon but I think we may upgrade to a thicker duvet first. 4 tog is a bit thin.

I know this system, we used to have it in my old apartment.
There was also some maintenance work that need to be done by a tech when turning it off for summer and then back on for winter, that's why we weren't doing it on our own.

Yeah it's a huge machine and it takes them a couple of hours to have it ready, I can't imagine going to the basement and doing it myself :redface: I guess Rita thought it was individual heating, if you have that you don't need anyone of course. I think central heating is much cheaper, I only have gas at home for hot water and I pay less than 90€ annually, which is fine.
 
I have the heating on today as it is a GHASTLY DAY and is under 10 degrees. Nice and cozy in here.
