World Cup 2022

I see the players of European countries are now not wearing the One Love armbands :(

A yellow card is nothing compared to being imprisoned, or even executed. Hopefully the captains stick by their principles and do it anyway. If anything it will be more effective a protest if it comes at some form of cost.

Honestly, the corruption with FIFA awarding this to Qatar was so blatant from the start, even before the country’s Human Rights record was being highlighted as a reason for them not being suitable - the fact that they moved it to November because of the climate should have been enough. The football associations from all countries (and if not, at least the Top 5 contenders) should have stated they would boycott the tournament YEARS AGO.

Have they already announced who gets it in 2026? If not, when would that usually happen?

They need to do a 100% turnaround on this and give it to ICELAND :disco:

We’re heading to Canada, USA and Mexico for 2026.

Apart from growing human rights issues in the USA, it doesn’t say much about their commitment to fighting to climate change having a tournament across a continent the sheer scale of North America.

Oh yes they do, but discriminatory laws condemning homosexuality and promoting homophobia are still very much a thing in the UAE and surrounding areas as a whole.

Not only that, but especially the treatment of the migrant workers (who in some of these countries are a majority of the population) is the same in these places and is really a hideous form of slavery that has been happening for decades and the whole world is watching without doing sonething about it.

If David Beckham is getting knocked for going over there for a big pay day I think other celebrities should too. Not just a dig at Kylie.
But then surely celebrities should be getting knocked for big pay in any country violating human rights, right? So that’s most of Asia. Many countries in eastern Europe. And Isreal :eyes:

Yes, one million percent. I am just pointing out Dubai/Qatar as that is the countries in question here.

So they've decided to put it on in the office and the big telly is about 10 feet away from me. Absolute fucking violence. Totally complaining.

The ONLY time my office did anything of the sort was London 2012 and allowing some of us to quietly stream iPlayer on tablets on our desks. That was simply because we’d been denied leave because of some stupid senior manager deciding to class us as “operational staff”, despite the fact that actual operational staff were getting bonuses for working at the time.

One Euros tournament all of the senior male mangers decided to “work from home” one afternoon when England had a match and mysteriously weren’t contactable during play when they were supposed to be working. The rest of us would have had to book leave to do that at the time.

So yeah, I’d kick up a stink unless they agree to bring TVs out on request for any other international sporting event.

It's only ever football, nothing else. It's pathetic. Our area doesn't have a manager in the office today and we know this is why.

Scumbag move from FIFA banning the One Love armbands. They clearly intended to do this all along but just announced it at the last minute to give the teams less time to decide how to respond.

I forgot the London 2012 thing was also as we had major work backlogs, but some of our colleagues in other teams were given paid leave to be “volunteers” at various Olympic events, but it was denied to us.

Still, the fact that one of my colleagues met and escorted Vladimir Putin to his seat is now her ultimate claim to fame and always highly amusing.

What on Earth is the typeface used for England’s numbers. Hideous.

I think the only real question is how many of the rest of the Iranian players have concussions as well.
