Or just plain can't do? Or never really learnt?

I was thinking of this thread the other day making a roast when I realised I absolutely cannot carve a chicken. I've looked up YouTubes before and there's a knack and an order to it, which I sort of follow for a bit, but inevitably I end up using my (CLEAN) hands and tearing away at it until I judge that I've got enough meat away from the bones.

Sorry for any moopy vegetarians who've just read about me tearing flesh with my bare hands :)

Also, typical gay, I've never really been able to do any sort of DIY. Most pictures in the house are hung with those velcro strip things.

DIY is something I’ve never grasped in any form. Largely because somebody else has usually been around to do it for me and I never decided to learn.

I’ve had to YouTube for some of the most ridiculous domestic things too. I had to look up how to change a lampshade on it.

I should point out I do have plenty of other skills.

I thought about this for a good couple of minutes and can’t think of a single thing.

Most things I don’t want to do I just refuse to. I may try for a small amount of time or just not bother before an overwhelmIng urge comes across me that I cannot do it and I great really angry about it and walk away. It’s often (well, usually) things I find dull rather than actually CANNOT.

It’s apparently an ADHD trait according to psychologist Mr Sheena, who says I’m a very likely candidate…

DIY is an interesting one as it totally just falls into the dull category. I just don’t try.

I LOVE building flat pack and I'm quite good at it. But as soon as you take those instructions away I'm useless. I'm similar-ish with cooking. I can either follow a recipe, or do something I've done a thousand times. I can't just whip something up from what I can see in the cupboards.

Oh and putting a quilt cover on. I make all of the bed and leave that bit for Mr Sheena, just cause I absolutely hate it.

I realise this isn’t the point of the thread, but still…

I've never learned to drive and have absolutely zero desire to, if that counts.

Also whistling, clicking my fingers, maintaining a romantic relationship...

Poach an egg.

Get on a bus in a middle stop, as in not the first stop of the trip.

I can’t drive. I regulate drivers and know everything about the DVLA, the history of licences around Europe and what each and every code means, with all the key dates over what changed and when. Never driven.

Hair and make-up. Make-up I used to be OK with but now I just can’t be arsed other than rubbing foundation in and a bit of light mascara. Hair is just ridiculously time-consuming to do anything interesting with it on a daily basis.

I can’t tie balloons.

In an absolute balloon-related emergency I can do it if I look up the instructions and I fret that I’m going to burst it before forgetting the technique completely the next time I have to do it.

Ironing is my one huge every day fail. My issue is not with ironing but setting up the board. It seems destined to remove fingers.

I also don't drive, but whatever.

Parking. I don't understand how I can drive perfectly precisely in a lane, turn a corner perfectly accurately, but as soon as I try to get the car between two lines it's absolute carnage.

We pretend we can do DIY. We've never had any big mishaps, but we've rarely done anything significant.

Dates. I've always been shit at remembering birthdays or significant dates. Despite having all my calendars synced with my phone and watch I've missed two meetings in the last fortnight. I've given up wishing anyone a happy birthday because I feel guilty when I miss one. Fuck time, it is a mental prison.

I'll co-sign the ironing thing. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong but I've never managed to make something less creased. I usually make it worse. So I just don't do it, and if I have some occasion where I have to dress smart, I pray someone else is around to save the day.

Cooking, it just always goes wrong.
This. I am utterly hopeless.

This one will sound silly but I am hopeless at organising socially - it takes me forever to book a holiday, even for myself, I cannot choose a restaurant (If I do, it will be shite). I think I am far too aware of what people will think and trying to please everybody (as somebody who is usually very easily pleased myself).

I have never learned how to tie a neck tie. It just hasn't ever been required, other than for weddings.

Every time I rely on YouTube.

The only one I can do from memory is that crap little one which looks lopsided peanut. For weddings and funerals I look for Half Windsor on YouTube, realise how easy it is, and then forget it by the next time I need it.

This is very me, except I'm pretty useless at a lot of things, particularly practical, and it is usually cannot rather than only a task being dull.

And the urge/anger is spot on. I will rant, throw things, storm off and generally act like a four year old, even knowing how utterly ridiculous it is.

I've also been told it's very much an ADHD indicator, and looking at others, some do apply and others don't. Still, I don't suppose you need a full house.

Primarily, task avoidance is very much a coping mechanism against anxiety and feeling overwhelmed for me.

Christ, most things! I'm a dreadful cook - too many things to keep track of at any one time and my brain just goes into anxiety mode and nopes out.
