Name an obsolete thing you can’t do without

Air Fryers are EVERYTHING.

I really want a bigger one with compartments :disco:
 
We had a tiny air fryer and quite liked it, got rid of it for a microwave/ air fryer combo which was absolutely shite, so have recently gone ALL IN on a Ninja. It really is VERY GOOD.
 
Still don't have an air fryer.

Going back about 5 years when our last microwave died, I replaced it with a combination convection microwave. Since then, I think I've used our main oven about 3 times total. Coming for two people it's easily big enough. And it made a noticeable difference to fuel consumption as well.

I definitely plan on getting one of the all singing Ninjas which does everything when we replace it. So which model do you have, @Sheena? Perhaps I ought to keep an eye out in the Black Friday sales.
 
I don’t even have a microwave as the one I had nearly blew up early March 2020, so I just never replaced it.

I know the energy consumption is more and it takes longer, but the flat has 2 massive ovens. Even re-heating things up in there has been fine. Bills haven’t been excessive and food taste much nicer than anything previously microwaved.

Will probably get an air fryer at some point.

We haven't had a microwave for a few years now, they're shit, the make 95% of things taste weird or ruin anything you defrost in them.

The only thing they were ever good for was faster baked potatoes.
 
I want to get rid of our microwave. Takes up so much space and we barely use it. When we get our upgraded air fryer I'm dumping it.
 
Mr L uses the microwave for things like baked beans. I find it a lot easier to put them in a small saucepan on the hob. Apart from anything else you can keep an eye on them a lot easier. He's also a lazy bastard when it comes to cooking and has quite a few microwave meals if I'm not home. We always have a couple in the fridge or freezer.

If I want something like a frozen dessert to defrost and I haven't given it enough time, I do find it useful to start it off in the microwave and then leave it out at room temperature to finish. I agree that anything you try to fully defrost in it is invariably ruined. And I wouldn't dream of doing it for meat or fish.

We’ve got a Foodi Max. Mr Sheena got NHS discount so it was kinda a steal. We love it- it’s really saving a bomb on fuel bills too. We’ve really noticed the difference.
 
As for microwaves, we only use to reheat things like beans/ bolognaise in the freezer we haven’t gotten out in time. It’s probably superfluous now we have the air fryer.

Thanks. I definitely want to get a Ninja - I've heard of people having bad experiences with cheaper brands, and got my niece a Ninja about 18 months ago which she uses daily and loves. I'll have to see if I can get NHS/Blue Light discount as well, although it seems to be on offer most places currently anyway.
 
I've never owned an air fryer, or even seen one in use, but all my friends tell me I'm missing out.
 
So those of you who hang off my every facebook post will know I have a bit of a THING about airfryers - anyway, I used the basket out of one in our normal oven to do a jacket spud the other day and it was very nice but also proves the point they are JUST SMALL OVENS AND NOTHING ELSE

Calling them 'fryers' was nothing more than a marketing ploy, wasn't it? Still, it's good for people to realise that they are small ovens. I'm sure the vast majority of people are using their main ovens and a lot more fuel than they need to in the majority of cases.

Oh yeah, they’re great for people cooking smaller meals, loads more efficient.

Wild how people thought they were the second coming though 😂
 
It made me realise how daunted a lot of people really are by cooking generally.

I want one of these! I don't think £150 is a bad price either.

We also don't have a microwave, we took ours to the shop 3 years ago as we never used it. It is useful for heating lunches at work but I had no need for it at home.
 
I don't really understand a pressure cooker. And I get confused if my air fryer has too many options.

What is a pressure cooker 🤔
 
I find pressure cooking a little off putting, but I think that's because all I know of it in a domestic setting is the big old pressure cooker my mum used to cook things like stews and casseroles in. It was a huge and heavy stainless steel thing that used to sit on the electric ring, and had some kind of valve that was always rattling, hissing or whistling.
