Well, some nice advancements would be curing diseases, figuring out how to use our brains to the maximum potential and even combating the deterioration of our bodies, etc. I do think at one point we'll all just be hooked up in incubators, living whatever "realities" we want, which could possibly be a realistic way to let earth's atmosphere recover. Sounds like a good sci-fi movie premise.

Its not impossible that if ASI, or the race for it, doesn't kill us then we'll quickly augment with technology and evolve beyond humans.
