Well I didn't read the options - I suppose a Kate Bush phenomenon is possible but you could say that of any legacy artist with a sizeable back cat.

I think "when she dies" but I'd LOVE a Stranger Things moment.
 
The two biggest revival hits in recent years were Kate Bush and Sophie Ellis Bextor, both of whom deserved it for various reasons. I can't think of many who would argue Madonna deserves it over Kate Bush.

As far as new material... 20th century divas don't really have hits any more. Kylie is prolific, but also likable, Beyonce's peak era was more recent and her recent hits big hits understood the pop mudic scene. I don't think Madonna has any of those qualities.

I could actually see it being something completely undiscovered. Angel (which WAS used in an early Stranger Things) or something which the majority of the public have forgotten...
 
I think the fact that Madonna has maintained a high profile consistently is perhaps more likely to work against her than someone like Kate Bush. And yes, I'd agree that it would probably come from something that wasn't a big hit already.
 
I could see someone doing a dance version of one of her songs where she gets a credit, similar to Cold Heart, or maybe a feature on a song by Taylor Swift or similar, but otherwise no.
 
La Isla Bonita is her no.2 song, behind whatever nonsense she featured on with The Weeknd.
 
Which in a world where Alejandro is gay-beloved makes sense.

Well I was going to say Man In Mirror was hardly the expected MJ death hit, but I guess when she dies in 2114 we'll find out.
 
Of course I didn't look at the options properly before voting, but now I read them properly then I guess I can see someone having a number one with a sampling or reimagining of a Madonna hit, but I'd also argue that doesn't count.
 
The thing is we know the next album will be another strong album because she's just a consistent artist who still has impeccable writing and quality production. None of that has changed over the years. The only thing that's changed is her voice, so adapting to it will be the only real challenge. When MDNA and Rebel Heart are considered your 'low point' you know [can someone else finish this in an upbeat way for me]

Also, I don't know what this will mean for the album but she's entered a period with the most public affection she's ever seen...ever. She's really emerged as THE cross-generational diva of choice. We haven't seen her release an album after establishing her colossal holiday legacy since last time. "Madame X" was a long time after Holiday was released and all that.

Legit question. Wouldn't Madonna have a greater chance of landing another #1 in UK than she would in US? I always get the impression the UK is more fond of her.
 
In the physical and downloads times she would’ve, as the US incorporates airplay which she has struggled on since about 2003, often due to her age. Hung Up was #1 on sales in both the UK and the US for example, but only made #8 in the US due to lower airplay.

These days it possibly works the other way with her being able to do better on airplay than streaming for her new songs, but it’d be a pretty tough task in either without some form of collaboration. Even Padam could only make #21 on UK Spotify as an example.
 
I guess the other thing to consider when thinking of this question is how the OCC may decide to fuck with how the chart is compiled in the future

I always had a fantasy that when she dies something like Ray of Light will go #1 as a reaction and the lyrics 'she's got herself a universe' would be apt, but that was around the time MJ died, and of course that was untimely and just before streaming took off. I don't think it could happen now. It didn't happen with Bowie.
 
I mean, it would totally be Like a Prayer to be her immediate posthumous hit. I can’t think of another. Unless there’s a surprise resurgence of Hanky Panky.
 
Wouldn't it come down to generational preference? Upon her death, would Gen X and millennials choose to commemorate her with the same song? (Secretly hoping it's Music)
 
I hope Troye Sivan pulls an Elton John and rewrites Where Life Begins for her funeral and it rushes to #1 for 26 weeks :MeredithMarks:
