Do you think there will be another world war in the next few years?

War?

There is currently at least one conflict or simmering conflict on nearly every continent or region on earth. Currently involved, potentially involved or recently involved include the USA, Russia, Europe, Israel, Iran, and China.

Are we already there? Is it all overblown and the world see sense? Are we heading into an all out conflict (albeit very different to the previous two).

Based on what we've seen, I think it would only take a wrong move involving NATO or China invading Taiwan and we could slip very easily into a wider conflict. I suspect there are more governments keen on an all out war, then there were just a decade ago. That being said Europe certainly doesn't want conflict, although I suspect any major conflict would happen away from Europe and they wouldn't have much say. This would essentially be USA vs China vs Russia.

I think we might already be in it without realising, but we're probably a while away from it actually looking like it. So I'll compromise on "within the next 12 months"

Trump and his ilk would love nothing more than a full out WW3

I think we're probably going to see the USA, Russia and China bullying their neighbours even more shamelessly, but I don't see them fighting one another.

If it does, I better die. I'm NOT cleaning up that mess.

I agree with this. I don’t think there’ll be a war, but I do think that the most powerful countries are done pretending that they care about norms and how they’re seen.

At least your uniform is DESIGNER.

I don’t think we will ever have an outright war now? With the weapons we have now I am psure it will pretty much be the end of the world? Or all humanity as we know it?

I voted within the next 5 years, but although it feels strongly like the mid 1930s, it's pretty even stevens as to whether it'll be all-out war, given mutually assured destruction and how the picture is more like the 19th century big power rivalry era.

I do think though that our defence and foreign policy is so intertwined with the US that I struggle to foresee any US-China-Russia scenario where Europe isn't also involved full hammer and tongs.

The billionaires have their boltholes, what happens to the rest of us doesn't bother them and many of them are psychotic enough to drool at the prospect of repopulating the planet with a masterrace based on their genes (hi Elon!) so it's all very possible.

I think we live in some very dangerous times. Putin has turned the concept of MAD into “I can do what I like because if you try to stop me we’ll all die, so you won’t”. It’s a big, world threatening game of dare.

Went for “no, but a wider conflict” which seems the most likely. He and other tyrants in nuclear countries will keep on playing the “can’t stop me, I’ve got nukes” game and bullying their way into more territory. But nothing’s certain and the wrong people in the wrong circumstances at the wrong time could still put an end to the world. Doesn’t even have to be through nukes - we rely so much nowadays on electronics and communication that the right disruption stops food and water getting from A to B.

Another question would be whether the US is going to see Civil War II. It’s going absolutely batshit and the White House is just full scale Nazi party fascism at this point. Not “calling them Nazis because they’re going after illegal immigration” but “calling them Nazis because they’re literally just murdering people in the street now, blocking investigation and blaming the left”

I know this is my privilege and that of the people I know, but it doesn’t feel batshit. I don’t think another world war is happening, but a civil wars seems even more unlikely

It probably is unlikely, because until people’s friends and relatives are the ones being shot by ICE no one in the US (outside of a few sane ones in here and other online spaces) will care what’s happening (I mean, they voted for this, and it wasn’t unclear what they were voting for)

But not batshit? Country’s gone pretty much 1930s Germany fascist mate.

It comes to something when fucking PUTIN is in the right :D
