Starting with the amazing Bad Girls album. Oh to be around at the gay clubs in those HEADY SUN DRENCHED 70s DAYS :disco: :disco: :disco:

*Frugs around the living room going 'toot toot, ah, beep beep' much to the CHAGRIN of Mr S*

Another place and time & I remember yesterday are her best albums.

Diving into Donna Summer all those years ago, was the greatest thing I ever did.

Once Upon A Time is my favourite album by some distance. What's NOT to love about a Cinderella themed disco concept album? :disco:

The 6 & a half minute version of Sunset People - there's not enough :disco: emojis in the world.

Praise The Lord Applause GIF

Are you aware of Moopy classic THE HOSTAGE?

A jolly DITTY about kidnapping with dialogue & EVERYTHING - BUT OF COURSE!

Once Upon A Time up next then - I only recognise Rumour Has It from the track listing - @lolly was it the only single?

After that I'll cue up the full MacArthur Park SUITE.

No, I Love You was a single as well. But it's packed full of songs that easily could have been singles.

ANYWAY, DONNA SUMMER ALBUM RANK:

1. Bad Girls
2. Once Upon A Time
3. Four Seasons of Love
4. A Love Trilogy
5. I Remember Yesterday
6. Another Place and Time
7. Cats Without Claws
8. Love To Love You Baby
(9. I'm A Rainbow)
10.The Wanderer
11.Donna Summer
12.Crayons
13. She Works Hard For The Money
14.All Systems Go
15.Lady Of The Night
16.Mistaken Identity
17.Christmas Spirit

And a few CHOICE CUTS...don't know how DEEP you go already and whether you just want disco only, so have only gone with things that are a BIT lesser known:

Work your way through any of the top 13 or so albums and you won't go wrong, though :disco:

And, of course, make sure you're properly treating yourself to the full eleven minute 12" glory:

ENOUGH is ENOUGH
Is ENOUGH
Is ENOUGH
Is ENOUGH...

...IS ENOUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH!

:disco:

Wasn't there a story about Donna falling off her chair mid-vocal when recording this while Babs just ignored her & carried on singing? :D

That 11-min version really UPS THE ANTE. I've popped it on now. It just goes ON and ON, entirely unnecessarily and SOLELY for the GAY DRAMA. There's more PEAKS than a MOUNTAIN RANGE :disco:

I never really cared for Bad Girls or Hot Stuff :(

Or the SAW album on account of my being a RUBBISH GAY

Haven't gotten to the singles yet but this is indeed all very good. YOU SHALL GO TO THE BALL & ALL THAT SHITE.

I'd always thought Donna was the sort of artist that you'd only need a Greatest Hits from too.

Not at ALL! It was all HIGH DISCO CONCEPT ART, darling!

All respect to Queen Donna, but there's clearly only one version of Hot Stuff worth talking about...

From HIGH CONCEPT to LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR in one post

Sheena has just about COVERED IT. Buying all the Donna disco albums on vinyl (SEVEN FOR A POUND!!!) in FISH MUSIC WOLVERTON in about 1995 really was a LIFE-CHANGING EXPERIENCE

:disco:

SOMEONE LEFT THE CAKE OUT IN THE RAIN
I DON'T THINK THAT I CAN TAKE IT
BECAUSE IT TOOK TOO LONG TO BAKE IT
& I'LL NEVER HAVE THAT RECIPE AGAIN
AGAAAAAAAAAAIIIIINNNNNNN

Currently CUTTING A RUG to the full suite...

Unconditional Love makes me very happy. Not a cool song I don’t suppose, but she sounds gorgeous.

HEAVEN KNOWS!
It’s not the way it should be
And HEAVEN KNOWS!
It’s not the way it could be
And DON’T you KNOW?
There’s no need to LEEEEEAVE

This version is LUDICROUS (but amazing, of course). Talk about keeping it going until you slip into a GAY COMA!

OT: I played "Another Place and Time" last week in the car after the comeback of the A Journey Through SAW podcast and I enjoyed it the most I think I EVER have. They really did hit paydirt when they had someone to give a shit about.

I'm going to go for this today (although I know it well) & Four Seasons Of Love (which I'm assuming from the title is another DISCOFIED HIGH CONCEPT :disco: ).

This post also reminds me that I need to listen to the A Journey Through SAW podcast. I did listen to the first couple of episodes in 2024 but then my mum got ill so it got forgotten about with all the other worries.
