it's not necessarily the most USEFUL ROUTE but I love the Circle line. it's never too hectic and the trains are spacious.

I hate the Northern. it's so busy and claustrophobic and takes forever going from south to north or vice versa.
 
the Central and District lines make it quite painless to get from east/central to west and I like that.
 
Elizabeth, Jubilee, and BAKERLOO. The two most thrillingly modern (honourable mention to the Victoria), and the one so thrillingly outdated in a way barely anything in London is anymore :disco:
 
Top 3 are:

Metropolitan - because it's probably the closest to the whole metroland sort of evocative past.
DLR - because I lived out East for a number of years and it reminds me of that, also it's lovely and twinkly at night going through the city.
Victoria - again, when I lived East (different bit) it was amazing to be able to get across to Shep Bush from Walthamstow without packing an overnight bag.
 
The DLR has saved me on many occasion during these silly strikes, but it’s not a tube line.

When I used to work in Southwark, my favourite alternate method was the lovely Thames Clipper!

The best thing that ever happened to me was when I had managed to get the front seat of the DLR (which is amazing to begin with), and then the conductor/driver came over, sat next to me, and opened up the controls to drive it manually. I got to pretend I was the driver myself :disco:

Fully returned to being 9 years old in that moment
 
I have to be biased. Sorry.

Piccadilly would have been my 4th choice had I not gone for the District for emosh reasons.
 
What I do know is that the Metropolitan Line is EVIL and the worst by far!
 
Lizzy is a no-brainer, total game changer.

Jubilee I always liked, the extension is like a proto-type Lizzy Line.

Northern. It's a dirty, skanky shithole, but it feels classic, plus I briefly lived on it.

Central and Circle, like most people I've probably used most, the rest I genuinely can't define the difference.
 
Victoria purely because I wouldn't have coped without it the 20 years I lived in London.

Used to live close to Brixton. Later lived in Vauxhall. The liverpool train gets into Euston. It runs through the centre of town. It runs through Victoria and Kings Cross. It's the fastest way of getting from one end of town to the other (before the Elizabeth line). No track splits so it's the least affected by signal failures. Completely underground so never affected by storms or LEAVES ON THE TRACK. The most reliably active in a strike.

It's dirty and noisy and the automated announcements NEVER SHUT UP but for pure convenience it's everything a tube line is supposed to be.

Neither is London Overground
 
Imagine giving that map to Nancy from Nashville and telling her she can use it to get from Lysester Square to Canary Wahf. BEST OF LUCK!
 
Apart from that it's kinda sexy, in a completely unusable kind of way.
 
Hammersmith & City + Circle (between Euston and Paddington) most useful for me when I’m doing work stuff in London.
 
Last station I travelled on was Central in 2022, and only really remember taking that and Piccadilly, kind of for usefulness. My sisters have been far more frequently/recently (one travelling today on Central line).
Elizabeth Line always seemed nice (best colour 💜)
 
Of the Underground lines proper: Jubilee.

(But the Elizabeth Line is a clearly superior to them all.)

South London’s practical workhorse. Doesn’t get much national attention but has a loyal following and a dry sense of humour.


The line most Londoners would argue about: The Northern Line. Half of London would insist it’s a lovable eccentric like Noel Fielding; the other half would say it’s more like a sleep-deprived conspiracy theorist who keeps changing their mind halfway through a sentence.


And if you asked commuters during a signal failure, every line would temporarily become Piers Morgan.
 
The Lizzie line is obviously the best because of air con.
 
It will always be the Bakerloo for me, mainly for nostalgic reasons. I remember my first visit to London aged about 6 and being beyond excited to get the Underground from Paddington to Baker St and then Charing Cross to see the pigeons. It's still the same rolling stock today so love how retro it feels.

I was also told (perhaps wrongly) by my dad that it's the deepest, which is also so cool. I also love that someone chose SHITTY BROWN for the colour.

My third and final reason for my love affair with the Bakerloo is the delightful portmanteau name of Baker St and Waterloo. Made all the more adorable by the inception of the BAKERLOOP bus. Plus we might see an extention south one day soon beyond the Elephant and Castle!

One of my friends is absolutely tiny (like, under 5ft tall and very slim, so can easily fit in kids clothes) - on one of my excursions to the ACTON DEPOT I went to one of the stands run by the volunteers (all old train drivers and neurodivergent kings) and got said pal a children’s size COMMEMORATIVE SWEATSHIRT marking the opening of the JUBILEE LINE EXTENSION :disco:

They said they were slightly mortified when they caught themselves wearing it on the Jubilee Line like some kind of fangirl.

However - line-wise it has to be Victoria for me. My biases often chop and change in relation to where I live but my love for her transcends all of it with sheer SPEED.

Yes, Liz is faster but she is also NOT an official underground line. :oi:
