ASFM presents WORLDVISION V: The Viewing Gala - Tonight, 8pm (1 Viewer)

[Sardonicus]

I was going to dismiss China as rather MEH but the post chorus whirling dervish synth bit that sounds like the danger zone bit on an old NES game saves the whole song.

[ButterTart]

I already knew of this band and heartily approved of their work, but before the fingering starts I can assure you this was not me.

[ButterTart]

15. Australia

Sam Quealy - Yum

[Sardonicus]

I already knew of this band and heartily approved of their work, but before the fingering starts I can assure you this was not me.

Sounds like the work of dmlaw to me.

Bit of a sod it, throw the kitchen sink in too mix of musical ingredients, I think I like it, but it needs a couple more listens for sure.

[ButterTart]

Yum is RIDICULOUS

[ButterTart]

If I was running for prime minister, I'd stand on a platform of making the surname Quealy accessible for everyone.

[ButterTart]

16. Ethiopia

Minyeshu - Sehara

[ButterTart]

This sudden lurch of pace was absolutely deliberate

[Sardonicus]

More video game plinks & plonks, a ludicrous & stupidly catchy chorus, a bit that sounds like that old Mario Piu dance song about mobile phone interference. I'm making an early bet that Australia will be our winner.

[Sardonicus]

From the ridiculous to the SUBLIME. I bet Ethiopia won't even get top 10 but it absolutely SHOULD. Love the voice & the African/blues crossover sound.

[ButterTart]

17. Antigua and Barbuda

Claudette Peters - Nat U

[ButterTart]

An actually IRREPRESSIBLE bit of joy.

[Sardonicus]

Antigua & Barbuda = Arrow's Hot Hot Hot sung by Diana King's ABRASIVE older sister.

[ButterTart]

18. Croatia

Ella - Iza Ponoći

[ButterTart]

I honestly can't believe I had to wait until I was... my current age to hear this

[Sardonicus]

Croatia is every 90s dance tune ever squeezed into one. If you'd told me it was generated by feeding the lot into ChatGPT I'd have believed you.

[ButterTart]

19. Portugal

Ana Lua Caiano - Deixem O Morto Morrer

[ButterTart]

A Portuguese song I actually like was NOT on my lifetime bingo card.

[ButterTart]

20. Japan

Yukihiro Takahashi - Disposable Love

[Sardonicus]

Trying to work out who Portuguese lady sounded like & it's Kate Bush's backing vocalist faves The Trio Bulgarka (uptunic)

[ButterTart]

From my furtive Googling, this guy is one of those people who had an esteemed and celebrated career and I've just straight up never heard of them.

[ButterTart]

@Iguana wild Kate Bush mention! Get in here!

[Sardonicus]

Japan presenting us with Japan's answer to David Sylvian, the lead singer of, erm, Japan.

[ButterTart]

21. Netherlands

Naomi Sharon - Was It Ever Love

[straightorbroken]

Loving the work from our LSL avatar chooser.

[straightorbroken]

1 song I've already entered.

On popjustice.

[ButterTart]

22. Armenia

Sevak Amroyan - Yarkhushta

[ButterTart]

Our final song, and I figured I'd end on a bang. I've almost sent this to normal ASFM about a dozen times, and now I never can.

[Sardonicus]

Nice dreamy stuff from the Netherlands, although I fear it could get lost in the crowd.

[ButterTart]

For anyone wondering, that instrument is called an Armenian Toot Horn, so called because Armenians are given to using it for tooting.

[disneyteletubby]

A fascinating range of songs! 🗺 I will try to listen at the weekend

[Sardonicus]

The horn bit of this is so similar to Mata Hari, the Eurovision entry from Armenian sworn enemies Azerbaijan!

[ButterTart]

Nice dreamy stuff from the Netherlands, although I fear it could get lost in the crowd.

I put it near the end for the very reason of keeping it in mind, it's excellent and I didn't want it to get lost.

[Sardonicus]

Great hosting BT & I'll have a few more listens through for sure before I decide on the points.

[ButterTart]

That's our show

I look forward to the many, many live commentaries of posters watching later. I'll get the voting thread up soon but there's no rush.

[OutSynk]

By just looking at the Spotify playlist I'll already have a few auto-qualifiers for points including a potential 12 so hopefully it won't be too difficult to find the rest.

[ZenGiraffe]

YUM YUM YUM YUM YUM YUM YUM

[ZenGiraffe]

YARKHUSHTA!!!!!!!!!

Goodness GRACIOUS

[Kate]

Well with all these mentions of icy electronica and 90s dance music, I'm actually looking forward to listening

[OutSynk]
