What should the plot be?

What songs should be included? What would be the opening number? The Act 1 closer? The finale?

What 25 songs make the cut and how can they be strung together coherently?

The overture starts with Te Deum, leading into an instrumental medley spanning seven decades.

The curtain rises.

That’s as far as I’ve gotten.

Opening scene. An intrepid explorer/travel writer is setting off on his latest project, Around Europe In 80 Days. He bids goodbye to his husband and young three-year-old daughter at St. Pancras, before breaking into “Save Your Kisses For Me".

Upon arrival in Paris, our hero (let’s call him Logan) meets a young man named Tom Pillibi in Jardin du Luxembourg. They hit it off, and young Tom wishes he too could be an adventurer. Back at his hotel, Logan breaks into "Tom Pillibi".

The next day, the two see all the sights of gay Paris before Logan has to depart for Brussels. They say au revoir, but just as the train is about to depart, Tom appears at the carriage door and breaks into "Ne partez pas sans moi"… he hops aboard just as it pulls off and the train blows its horn.

End scene.

After their tour bus breaks down in Jaywick, four kind-hearted and glamorous Essex girls decide to end world hunger the only way they know how, by staging an international song contest and sending "A Message to Your Heart".

In ‘All Out Of Luck’, the bombing of Nagasaki is reimagined as a fragmented choral work in which the city’s everyday life is interrupted and then permanently reshaped by a single catastrophic moment.

The opening act layers pre-disaster normality through “Strazdas” and “Marija Magdalena,” alongside brighter civic illusions in “Happy Birthday” and “No Goodbyes”, while “Diamond Of Night” reframes the night sky as something already charged with unease rather than celebration. The tone shifts gradually from public performance to unstable broadcast as reality begins to distort.

In the aftermath, the narrative becomes a patchwork of survivor perspectives: “Like The Wind” follows drifting searchers through a silenced city, while “Say It Again” turns into fractured testimony repeating under trauma. “No Quiero Escuchar” becomes a collective refusal to process overwhelming loss, and “Living My Life Without You” anchors private grief in a landscape of absence. “For A Thousand Years” and “Aava” extend this into a slower meditation on endurance, where survival itself feels suspended and uncertain.

The final movement gathers political and existential reckoning through “One Good Reason”, “Reise nach Jerusalem” and “All Out of Luck” transforming justification, displacement, and global spectatorship into competing narratives over what the catastrophe means. The ensemble fractures between silence and reconstruction as meaning is continually rewritten, before the reprise of “Strazdas” dissolves the city back into unstable transmission - less a conclusion than a lingering signal of lives interrupted and never fully recoverable.
