The 2 greatest pisstakers in pop music. That show they had on MTV when they'd pretend to be "enthused" at the week's new releases... amazing

AGOG at this sample of Gimme Gimme Gimme, I don't remember the radio edit including it at the time? Either way, did they have any further singles after this one or leave us with a perfect 3/3 strike rate of top 10 BANGERS?
 
Adelante felt like the least ESSENTIAL of Sash!'s various number 2 hits at the time but it's HITTING THE SPOT today.

Funny too, how the likes of this, Andreas Johnson, Daphne & Celeste etc all feel very much part of the 2000s, NOT the 90s. There doesn't seem to be that sort of early in the decade crossover at all, they ALL sound & look early noughties.

But Maya did go on to record some rather HIGHBROW releases of her own



 
Those are of course terrible, but I'd have loved her to have extended her run a little more. If only she had any confidence.

Yeah I recently listened to that SAW episode. Even given the horrible & limited circumstances they were given, it was still shit. A mix of old live performances would have been better (but I get the situation - what can you do?)
 
Speaking of crap videos, Madonna’s Who’s That Girl is shockingly listless. She looks bored out of her mind!
 
Ooh Stick You is even worse than I remember it? :D Truly abysmal, even Jamie Theakston spoke through gritted teeth.

I did enjoy this Oasis era more than the previous one. I have absolutely no recollection of the Blue (Da ba Dee) follow up from Eiffle 65. Joey Negro and Taka Boom would reunite a few years later for Make a Move on Me which was the superior track.
 
How did Rebecca Wheatley get a top 10 hit with this karaoke cover of Stay With Me Baby? Was there a long forgotten Casualty tie in I'm not aware of?
 
I assume it soundtracked Charlie declaring time of death for several guest stars caught up in a chamois thong factory explosion or a disco catastrophe or summat
 
Five new entries in the top 20 not shown in any form on this week's top of the Pops. That must have been a record.

Granted, one of them was Puff Daddy and R Kelly but that performance was edited out.

Also that Caught Out There performance was DREADFUL! :o
 
My parents have the TOTP on series link on their Sky Box so I was watching some 1999 eps with my mum this evening.

This was the era I really started HAMMERING the music channels and frankly subjecting her to all manner of tut - it was fun to reawaken memories that have lay dormant for 27 years…

We are rewatching 1988 and had Kylie, Kim Wilde and Voice Of The Beehive earlier, all of which I bought at the time.
 
First time I've been able to sit down and watch this for a while.

The Santana comeback was an odd little moment, wasn't it?

In a streaming environment I suspect Smooth would've spent half the year at #1.

One year on from Eurovision, and the four backing Precious' still haven't managed to lobby for any solo lines. Jenny Frost presumably already plotting her escape while half-heartedly miming in a puke green wrap dress.

Rewind is a top tier Cheiron knock-off though. Deserved better.
 
Aww, M2M. A chart blip here, but they sold millions in Japan and both went on to surprisingly interesting solo careers.
 
Beck always struck me as the most annoying person in your life's favourite musician. This performance isn't moving the needle on that.
 
Mel C's failed attempts to find a post-Spice haircut that worked for her is one of the little micro-narratives I've really enjoyed while re-living the Northern Star era through these repeats.

This may actually be the nadir.
 
Last gasp for B*Witched, who already feel like a bit of a time capsule. They probably never had much of a shelf life, but that second album really screamed 'rush job'.
 
This really was the peak of Beyonce's megalomania era. I assume she relaxed a bit about letting the other girls get any screen/vocal time once her solo stardom was assured. This is 100% shot and blocked like a solo performance and I can't imagine that's a coincidence.

If you squint, you can just about make out Kelly, Michelle and the pub quiz bonus point shimmying in the background.
