Honestly chart records mean fuck all these days. Music industry really clutching at straws given these records are getting broken every week now.

I have to say, it is quite disappointing how much cultural power and heft country seems to have over the charts in the US now.

Langley is veering dangerously close to number one, Morgan Wallen is no longer a US-only name, and even this week there is a TWEE bit of nonsense from a nuisance called Stella Lefty about to go top 10.

My local town has at least two country music "festivals" scheduled this summer, and there is a HORRIFYING rise of MULLET haircuts all over the place

Someone at the station had a ridiculous mullet yesterday. I was agog.

He also had a lovely arse, but still.

I melt for a good mullet but they have never really gone away in my neck of the woods

Coincidentally I am on a train right now, and two utterly DISGUSTING MELTS with MULLETS have stunk the entire carriage out with what are presumably almighty MIDWEEK SHARTS that would make even Martha Skidd's insides shrivel up

So DESTROY ALL MULLETS

And BURN ALL BANJOS just to be sure

I don’t mind the incessant weeks at #1 as much as the lack of new juggernaut hits this year to compete. The year end chart will be very very dull. Aside from maybe Bruno, and Olivia Rodrigo, the new hits seem to come and go very quickly. Ariana fared well enough but made less of an impact than the last album.

Not quite, it peaked at 14 a few weeks ago but matches it this week.

I didn’t realize American Girls went recurrent a few weeks ago. I wonder if they plan to push any other singles from the album. That whole campaign feels very Dua Lipa/Radical Optimism. Not an objective failure but very minimal impact.

I don’t see any obvious competition preventing it to beat Mariah’s record through September, but I guess Mariah is poised to reclaim the record this holiday season if so.

Can't wait for this climbing to number one by next year and remaining there for at least 158 weeks.

I'm happy that the world has collectively decided to ignore Sam Smith and their endless dreary music PEDDLING. Now if we could only do the same for Ella LAngley xx

I will say I actually really like the single ("My Boy") they pushed from it a couple of months ago

But ultimately they'd attempted to pivot back to being Adele, and they vastly underestimated how much the VULGAR and UNHOLY behaviour had pushed that market away. They might have stood a better chance if they'd carried on down the HORRIBLE GARISH pop route.
