it does appear that the new guy is hardline anti-immigrant and has said nothing about gay or trans rights, which doesn't feel like a good omen on those scores. for now I guess the priority in Hungary is the economy and a stronger relationship with Europe. let's hope he won't be another anti-establishment guy who quickly becomes the thing he replaced.
 
I’m not convinced Fico or Babiš won’t conveniently step into the Orban role of constantly cock-blocking the EU, but we take our little victories wherever we can.

Tisza on course for 2/3 majority with 72% votes counted​

With 72.44% of votes counted, Tisza is projected to be on course for 138 seats, which would give it the key two-thirds majority in the new parliament.

2/3 is the (previously seen as highly unlikely) benchmark he’d need to start seriously rolling back Orban’s dismantling of the independent judiciary and media.

The greatest Hungarian Eurovision song is Viszlat Nyar and hopefully @ButterTart will be along shortly to provide a wholly objective confirmation of this.
 
Their 2008 entrant Csézy has in fact been elected as part of the new government!
 
The ticket seems to have been largely on dismanteling internal corruption rather than on any kind of social progress. Let's see if he proves to be one of those people who just replaces one means of corruption with another.

I think he’s more Tory - he left Orban’s party because they were too far right, I think?

Either way he actually comes across as intelligent, which is rare for the political right these days.

And he’s pro EU - ALLEGEDLY
 
It appears ‘no’ has won. Possibly by the cursed ratio, or maybe 53-47.
 
I think it was probably unlikely they'd have joined unless it was a 60% vote in favour of accession negotiations to begin with. The Yes campaign being based so heavily around the prospect "Yes to see" (what the deal might be) wasn't all that promising for how many would still necessarily be voting Yes once the deal was known and some people inevitably decided they didn't like it.
 
Still, Iceland's already in the European Economic Area, so they already get most of the economic benefits of being in the EU anyway, just they don't get a say over the rules and get to keep sovereignty over things like their fishing rights, trade deals and not needing to use the euro. If only we were operating from that position...

Been living in Iceland for 7 years. The 'Nei' campaign clearly had the momentum in the last few weeks. As Penelope said we are still part of EEA/Schengen so the stakes of this vote were not as dire as Brexit, but still seeing no voters fall for the same propoganda here that they did in the UK 10 years ago has been so fucking frustrating to put it mildy.
 
Conservatives in the countryside/fishing rights/scare tactics(I don't want my kid drafted into an EU army/insert bullshit reasoning here)......Reykjavík voted 'yes':(
 
Why does half the world think that “unity” automatically means “control”? The irony of most of them voting for right wing governments!
