Dolly Parton DEAD (1 Viewer)

Loving this deeply relatable classic about a young Dolly hearing tell of an intimidating dom top living in the smoky mountains and being like “Sounds hot, let me strap on my hiking gear!”

One of my all-time Dolly faves!

I was just listening to The Grass Is Blue and became very distracted by this number having the exact same melody as Saint Etienne’s Like a Motorway.

Turns out Saint Et brazenly pilfered it! (It’s an old 19th century folk song, Dolly didn’t write it)

It wasn’t pilfered.

It’s an HOMAGE.

I had the same sensation on Tuesday night watching the Here I Am doc on BBC1 when they played Silver Dagger and was thinking, what does that remind me of?!!

Obviously I love Potential New Boyfriend, but I hadn't seen the quite bizarre video before:

Up to 16th on the memorial forum hit parade. Will rise above Pete Burns shortly.

I'm on leave this week and have decided to try and do a couple of her albums daily.

Today I've done Burlap & Satin (1983) and am now about to start White Limozeen (1989).

Latest midweeks:

01 Dolly Parton - 9 to 5 (12,182)
02 Dolly Parton - Jolene (12,095)
03 Ella Langley - Choosin' Texas (12,082)
04 HUGEL, Imael Angel & Ultra Naté - Movin' to the Sun (11,895)
05 STELLA LEFTY - Boston (11,178)

07 Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton - Islands in the Stream (9,681)
08 Sam Fender & Olivia Dean - Rein Me In (9,215)

As awful a person as Ella Langley clearly is, I’d still rather have her at number one than the billionaire’s daughter.

Sadly the evil Trump girl won the battle for UK #1, but new chart peaks this week for 9 to 5 (#5) and Jolene (#6), plus Island In The Stream climbs to #9.

All new peaks is good enough. Even with evergreen classics, streaming is an uphill battle.

It would be interesting to know what else would have charted had we not had the 3 song rule as well.

I'm guessing Here You Come Again, Coat of Many Colours and I Will Always Love You

Haha yesterday after some shopping I was walking through the near abandoned city centre, and some random guy shouted 'Jolene!' as Dolly's song was playing from some maintenance vehicle. Quite nice to liven things up. 🎶 💗
