I don't expect this to get much traction BUT

Does anyone play padel? I had a lesson recently and played a first match yesterday and I was TERRIFIED because I was going alone and playing with people assigned via an app.

But it was really fun. They put you with people at your level (i.e. NEW and CRAP) so it wasn't scary and I got QUITE THE RUSH. I used to enjoy badminton but haven't played in years, but it got me back into that sort of "space".

I only signed up because my work is organising a padel event and I didn't want not to even know the rules, but I feel like it's something I could play more regularly outside of that and enjoy.

The only issue is there aren't many courts around and I have to travel 35 minutes to get to one...

Anyone play and have any tips? :D

Also is it just me who finds sports places very intimidating? The HERETO HORMONES seem to rule and I immediately feel out of place. I think it's all in my head but I'm NO MUSCLE MARY and I just feel quite tiny. So whenever I just make it through a game I'm quite proud of myself :D

Good for you, keep at it (as long as you’re enjoying it) I’m a tennis player so we’ve always been a bit snotty about padel and pickleball, especially the latter.

There are more and more padel courts appearing here, it’s really taking off.

I’ve played padel only a couple of times for a bit of a meeting point for something fun and sporty to do with friends who there’d be no point taking onto a tennis court (standard wise).

I don’t really notice what you mean about the hetero atmosphere but that’s prob because I’ve been playing competitively against adults from a very young age and went to an all boys school though I have heard others say that. The more you do it the less you’ll notice, the first couple of tries at anything can leave anyone feeling a bit out of place.

Plus of course doing sport with a bit of a competitive edge does wonders for the physical and mental health (*unless you’re someone who has a meltdown if you’re losing, in that case something else is needed.)

I opted for pickleball - I’ve been playing weekly for about five months and I love it. But a similar dearth of venues in East London. I dreaded the fact it was always doubles and playing with strangers, but it really quite nice.

I think if you play tennis it's definitely a step down! But apparently tennis players can find it a bit tricky at first because they're used to hitting the ball harder.

And yeah I missed out on all the formative sports experiences, having avoided those most my life, but I agree I already feel more comfortable!

Oh impressive that you've kept it that regular for that long. I'm going to try, but I have been known to drop things after not very long... But currently very keen!
