The War in Ukraine (1 Viewer)

I noticed there was some amped up talk about going to war last week from both the UK and France. Maybe propaganda as a sort of threat against further Russian aggression...

Ukraine pounded Moscow oil resources again last night, just before the Russian "election".

Drones and flares have been heading near Lithuanian, Polish and Danish territory or aimed at their military helicopters.

When is it going to go too far?

Does anyone genuinely believe that Russia wants to attack all of Europe? Seriously? NATO is incredibly aggressive and they are leading us to WWIII and too many are just blindly going along with it.

How has NATO been aggressive towards Russia? A bunch of countries that Russia invades every few decades decided to join an alliance in hopes that it'd prevent the Russian tanks rolling in again, and suddenly they're the aggressors?

He's desperate to provoke NATO.

I don't think he gives a fuck if it's just Ukraine or more.

This is a staggeringly naive view of what has happened over the decades.

Putin is filth. So are most Western leaders today. The sooner people realise that the better for all of us.

Get ready to get conscripted girls.

I’m technically ASTHMATIC (although haven’t had an issue in years) so that’s my get out clause :disco:

Post-Cold War NATO kept its collective defense mission to expand America's military role in Europe and extend Western political/military influence into former Soviet-adjacent states. There is no credible evidence that there were ever plans for an actual "aggressive" attack/invasion of Russia itself.

But, a policy intended to strengthen one state's security can (and very often has) simultaneously be perceived as a threat by another. NATO's defensive objectives and Russia's security concerns are not mutually exclusive, nor does does it prove that NATO was acting "aggressively".

You're also forgetting Russia's historical relationship with Ukraine. Putin has explicitly challenged Ukrainian statehood and its separation from Russia. NATO expansion is only able to explain a portion of this conflict because Russia and Ukraine already had a politically tumultuous relationship before western involvement.

Diane Abbott? is that you?

The gentlemen of Moopy must all all go to Washington and have sex with military types to prevent the death of everyone. This is the mission you were born for.

Most of us are far too old for that at this point!

Best of luck @Soldi 🙏
There’ll be nice admin rolls for us to do

“Does this war need a fab poster?”
“Anyone need an inter-army event organised?”
“Who’s doing the PR for the Shady Knickers military drill?”

Nobody disputes that the West has a vested monetary and military interest in Ukraine, but ultimately there wouldn't have been an uprising if the Ukrainian people preferred to remain a vassal state of Russia over developing closer ties with Europe and NATO.

That post implies that the history of Ukraine's attempts to carve their own path away from Russia began in 2013. It goes back decades beyond that.

how about the great cash replacement conspiracy designed to... limit how much meat you eat?

he's out here doing the lord's work :)

There's also the question as to why a post-CW West should be expected to feel obligated to capitulate to Russian political preferences. After the Soviet collapse the West was in a very advantageous geopolitical position. Its main rival had dissolved, and many Central/Eastern European governments were voluntarily pursuing Western alignment. Of course America and Europe were going to capitalize on that.

Would it have been wise to exercise restraint? Yes. But why is the onus on the West to tiptoe around Russian sensibilities and not on Russia to learn from its failed tyrannical regime and sit the fuck down?
