Football 26-27

Brighton haven't beaten Arsenal in any of the last 6 meetings prior to today.

we were shit though and deserved that beating.

Hence traditionally! A few years ago it felt like it was NEARLY a dead cert that Brighton would beat Arsenal, but agreed this is a bit of an anomaly compared to recent matches, but we're on a roll at the moment and I just knew we'd win. I'll take it!

I just wish we could have beaten Chelsea, who have most our players...

I love that at the start of every season there’s one team that says “hold my beer” to the big clubs.

This year it’s Brighton

Usually it lasts until about October and they collapse. Something about this Brighton team though…

I still think Leeds will finish highest of the mid-table challengers this season and will push for Europe, but Brighton and Brentford both look very sharp too

“Guilty on virtually all charges”

I wonder if this has anything to do with FA needing to be squeaky clean (and not play favourites) in light of the FIFA debacle…

Evertonians will be very happy today. And Arsenal/Liverpool/United of course…

I guess this means that in another six or seven years they might actually face some sort of punishment.

I'm sure any appeal will take at least a year to sort out. this is good but they better not just get financially sanctioned. and I don't want retroactive points sanctions. -50 points THIS season please :)

Talking to a mate tonight who’s a big football geek and he seems to think a reversal of titles is even a possibility at this point, and at the very least a reversal of the money they have earned in the positions they finished while breaking the rules. And that money would have to go to the teams they finished above. Huge implications.

A lot of it depends on the appeal.

It's all way worse (and way more disgusting!) than I had anticipated.

I've just seen a pretty comprehensive list of reasons why they couldn't possibly be punished through relegation, all down to financial costs obviously.
in what sense? Everton were docked points relative to the scale of their crime so why could they not, say, dock City 80 points? in Scotland Rangers were sent three leagues down in 2012.

It's all down to how much worse off the Premier League would be without Man City, they'd lose sponsorships, a tonne of revenue from lost signings and advertisers would interest in both the club and the league, and in the grand scheme of things, Everton and Rangers are small fry by comparison.

It's all about context and the impact in proportion to the money that sits around any given league.

Obviously the scale and the amount of money overall is smaller but to say Rangers were small fry in the context of that league is fucking stupid. Their fanbase is almost a third of all Scottish football fans!

I feel fairly comfortable saying that Rangers are more important to Scottish football than City is to the Prem. They can't even fill their own bloody stadium.

I saw this list and thought it was a PISS TAKE!

"Oh we can't relegate City, BILLIONS will switch off"

Fuck off.

why on earth would they ever think it would be a good idea to give City a smaller punishment relative to previous punishments because they’re currently a big club? And also what’s the metrics? Man City has a long way to go to be as historically important to a league as Everton or Rangers. In the “grand scheme of things”, they’ve been a massive club for five minutes.

I honestly thought this headline...

I know it’s only the Nations League but who put a rocket up Greece?!

Croatia’s worst ever loss is 6-0. England currently beating them 5-0 with over half an hour to go.

Palace seem to be recovering from their early season rutt. I know it's only Notts Forest, but happy with a 3-1 win.

Against Glasner too :D
