Great video! Like a Traitors set… thought it was Heidi walking in front of the hearse for a minute

Yeah, this is excellent.

That Mutya opening verse floating over the bass line - urgh so good :disco:

It's quite a FEAT that this will be their first OFFICIAL* reunion album, 16 years after getting back together.

* I would perhaps count The Lost Tapes if the production was better. Luckily the production of the singles from THIS album has been impeccable!
Wow that’s a longer gap than the one between them being BORN and their first album.

The close-up of the older blonde lady did briefly make me think the video was a graveyard of former members, but I love the return to halloween-esque imagery that they've always done so well from the surly Top Shop staff in the Run for Cover clip, the more blatant Freak Like Me, to the iconic cubicle-exit demonstration in Easy. As to be expected with the vintage peak line-up, the aesthetic and unflinching pop instincts at play are rich, arch and flawless - and their harmonies carry this one to victory.

This is by no means a pass agg question but do they have a formula where Siobhan is always relegated to middle eight third wheel?

I recall seeing criticism that Mutya wasn't prominent enough on the Polydor material. She didn't write as much as the other two. They may have taken that criticism to heart.

I don't think Siobhan is remotely a third wheel, though. She's a driving force. She and Keisha are very much doing their thing in the latter third of the track. It's interesting to hear Siobhan do some low notes on "Ghost," while Mutya has some higher ad libs.

Siobhan has the first verse on Jungle and Weeds, and the second on Shook. she's probably got the least vocal time overall on these four songs but it's not a Michelle Williams just the middle 8 situation. I would like a chorus or two with Shiv front and centre.

Well I think this is the best thing any guise of 'Sugababes' has ever done and I LOVE that finally 13 years after MKS was announced we have something that actually feels like a proper LAUNCH to something.

#soon is here guys 🥹

From Wikipedia:

The next day [7 August 2012], Donaghy tweeted "With the girls in the studio. I think the album is finished!!!"

:WellThereWeAre:

This sounds a bit reductive to my ears, the verses don’t quite fit the music and the chorus is a bit tired but I’m still open to an album. I also can’t unhear Suomi’s comment about the intro sounding like dial up internet.

funky hearing that this has a melody and a chorus

Sure it hasn't decapitated me, but I think it's a deceptively low-key grower and a core element Sugababes track where all do their thing and shine accordingly. Think I'm giving it an 8 so far.

Lead single “Ghost”, out today, is a collective favourite. “It came from something that happened to me with my first love,” explains Siobhán. “He essentially ghosted me before we even had the terminology for it. I remember joking at the time that in some ways it would have been easier if he’d died – which is obviously incredibly dramatic, but there’s something strange about grieving someone who’s still out there.” Musically, they wanted it to feel scuzzy and imperfect, “rather than over-produced. There’s something about that looseness that gives the song its character. We weren’t consciously trying to make something that sounded like an old Sugababes record, but once the three voices are on something with that slightly raw, soulful quality, I think it naturally starts to feel like us”.

As good as this is, I’ve seen a lot more discourse online now about how Heidi really should be a part of this, particularly over Siobhan who was in the band for less than a year.

I’m going to use “I’ve seen more discourse online” next time I’m trying to convince moopy of something ridiculous

Siobhan has been there for the last few tours, the delightful well received Glastonbury dates and the genuinely excellent Lost Tapes. I truly understand the Heidi discourse but Siobhan has well and truly earned her flowers.
