Taylor Swift - The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore (1 Viewer)

She’s knocking Ella thingy off Number 1, yes?

She has always been wildly overrated. Even her best songs are good, not great.

As a lamb, it's like choosing between the plague (Mariah losing the longest #1 single) and cholera (Mariah soon overtaken as the soloist with the most #1s). Both can get in the bin as far as I'm concerned. But then again, Mariah has done fuck all to retain and extend her record for years, so...

Chart records helped cement Mariah's career, but I think it graduated beyond that sometime after 2020, especially following her Christmas post-career. She's starting to occupy a cultural role similar to Dolly's. Beloved wholesome female songwriter, high camp exterior, but very sentimental interior, and both intergenerational and politically fireproof.

Olivia’s “drop dead” is the currently most streamed female track in a single day in 2026 at 12.5m unfiltered so it did more than that:

Well I listened to Patient Zero a few times this morning and it's... there. And it's... fine.

Then I listened to expectations and u + me = <3 and serena joy on repeat. Yes I am pitting two female artists against each other and one is winning.

Also, what I will say is that none of these new songs fit with the album. They're much better though imo.

They aren’t bad or great, they just have no personality to me. It sounds like lesser versions of the “vault tracks” that came with 1989 etc.

Reviewers are so fucking predictable though. Whatever she came out with was going to get RINSED after the reaction to the last album (which loads of them praised to high heaven before the tide changed).

I actually think it’s not a bad idea to get the backlash started with four new songs now. It gives a chance for any new project, whatever that will be, to be judged anew.

She’s heading towards 40 years old and still writing embarrassingly, petty drivel like this. There really does seem to be a backlash forming and it’s long overdue for so many reasons.

That is exactly what I think she's doing. She will be acutely aware that the backlash is in full swing and I bet the next thing she does is an archive project of some sort, to remind people of why they loved her in the first place.

They all sound the same, so I'm gonna give them a collective score of 7/10.

Vaguely pleasant melodies.

Still hate her voice, and the way she uses speech-singing to hide her non-existent vocals.

I like that she has a recognizable tweeny writing style, but I personally still hate it.

I think people might be reading TOO MUCH into those two women's reactions. It's all put on for the cameras anyway. People don't actually react to listening to a song like that...

it was always going to drop considerably based on its first day numbers but this is pretty steep

I just think Cleveland would have been the perfect focus single from the project. It's a celebration of her being married and in love. Yes the lyrics are a but cheesy but overall I think it's a good song.

Cleveland is, indeed, dogshit. Pink Clouding and Babylon are decent - Patient Zero is just meh.

NEXT.
