Tom Cruise plays a crazy old man in his most far-fetched reinvention to date :eyes: directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu (Birdman).

widely considered an early frontrunner for Best Picture, Director, Actor etc. also starring Riz Ahmed, Jesse Plemons and Sandra Hüller. I think this looks FUN!

I know for a fact he won't manage to save the world, what with being The Apocalypse. But I shall watch his little film. I have a weakness for indulging humanity it seems.

Well colour me intrigued

The last thing I want to watch at this point is more comedies about billionaires destroying the world.

Probably gonna piss a lot of people off. Seeing it in a full theater is going to be interesting.

I am quite enjoying this thread's short journey from Oscar contender to Razzie

The trailer didn't really strike me as something I must watch. The supporting cast to me are more interesting. It felt very much like Temu Wes Anderson.

I really enjoyed this.

It poses some very interesting questions about how historical narratives are shaped, and how we as audiences are willing to consume them.

John Goodman was incredible at chewing the scenery whenever he was on screen.

This looks really interesting to me and I love the Director, but I really don’t like Tom
Cruise- there’s something about him that I find really off putting. It’s as if he was a robot disguised as a human, down to his generic looks.

Considering the fact that he really hasn’t had a ton of success the last 10 years, I’m shocked that Scientology didn’t somehow back this up to at least make it a small hit for him

Scientologists are ordered to go and see every Tom Cruise film en masse when they're released but I guess the numbers just aren't there anymore!

Some of the reaches here! 'Top Gun: Maverick' made $1.5bn and became the highest grossing film of his career, that was only four years ago :D God forbid he sticks to the franchises and doesn't need to look elsewhere for a paycheck

Anyway, I found this quite frustrating for much of the runtime, but it won me over by the end. There's a reason the marketing is as it is, and why it's coming across as off-putting to people

They're rehearsing a play called 'Fossil Fools', which is later revealed to be based on real life events from a couple of decades earlier

Tom Cruise and Jesse Plemons have one excellent scene each, I think Tom deserves the Oscar nod but all the buzz being what a giant box office bomb it is will probably kill off all the awards prospects. Riz Ahmed is the scene stealer though.

I think if he's kept folding in more art house stuff throughout the last couple of decades - like he did earlier in his career - his audience might be with him a bit more - but a lot of them seem to have forgotten he does anything other than action.

There were only two other people in the screen I watched this in and when the twist happened we all groaned. Agree about Riz Ahmed being the standout performer even if he was underused towards the end.

When the twist happened, they didn’t really commit to it enough, and I just wished I was watching Birdman instead.

Loved this! I think that the ending being both interpreted as profound and trite is kind of the POINT. Found it very nihilistic overall which I do find a REASONABLE response to the themes in the film. This releasing in the shadow of the Warner Bros/Skydance merger and weeks after AI companies are suggesting it’s going to KILL US ALL is great timing. Also the set pieces are stunning and it’s a very FUN film even if the point of the fun is its surface level. Much to think about!! See Digger girls!
