Agnes - Goodlife

Fancy artwork. Hopefully this continues the glorious comeback (artistically).

Also, not a dry eye in the house:

Earth mother and a bit of a country queen on the side as well.

she is such a fine vocalist. everything else about that version is silly but her voice completely elevates it. i like that she doesn't try to outgun fredrikson, i'm not sure she could even if she tried, but i like her direction at any rate.

my expectations are so high, i'm not sure it's possible not to be disappointed. but that sounds *.*

well I actually am a touch disappointed on first play. I don't know, the chorus feels not memorable. let's see.

For me, this is the best of the bunch she’s released so far.

There’s something very 70s disco about it all. I love it.

i like it. it sounds very old-fashioned and it's definitely not as interesting as the tracks before it, but there's charm and i'm sure the layers of vox at the close will win me over soon enough.

I like it a lot. There's a seventies northern soul come light disco recording feel there.

She did say that the what came after the previous EP would be different. I'd love an album that brought it all together.

Oh I love that performance. The styling is so on point, and her vox are strong.

I'll have to keep an eye out for any Malmö activity. she's treating us with these performances!

Is Sweden's Spotify usage RIDICULOUSLY young now then? It's not like Agnes is OVER THE HILL...

If it’s anything like the UK, I’m sure it’s all about what playlists you’re on

They were among the first countries to really adopt it, so you'd think it was a fairly broad demographic by this stage.

The current top 20 includes a Mis Li (37) and Darin (32), so I wouldn't say Agnes' age plays a major role.

I just don't think anyone CARES, for some reason. :(

I wonder if it's the Idol tag over there? I mean, she seems COOLER THAN SHIT to my ADMITTEDLY OLD EYES

That performance was on that Skavlan show, which I'm led to believe is quite high profile across Scandinavia.

That performance suits the song really well. I can't quite decide if it is sung excellently or mimed expertly but it is great anyway.

So Goodlife has already racked up almost 150k streams in 4 days, which is pretty good considering I-Trance is only on 427k, Limelight on 850k and Nothing Can Compare around 900k. None of them are huge numbers at all but I guess she's doing ok for a local act who has been away from the limelight for so many years.

there's just no gimmick, no new story. she's not a big celebrity either and she doesn't have a major label behind her which is your only other real hope these days.

the video has some redeeming qualities but is overall not very good.

love the song at this point obviously. i've decided it reminds me of abba somehow.

I agree that the video is not great overall. Some parts are just not pleasant to watch.

I wonder if she has decided whether to do an album or is just going to do one-offs or another EP.

Nothing groundbreaking, but I like it. The old Hollywood and vintage imagery used reminds me a bit of "Video Games".

It might not be goosebumps for the gays, but she's all killer no filler these days. If it didn't make me wince and think of Charlotte Church, I'd use the word "lush" without a disclaimer.

apparently she working on it with cathy dennis. from youtube:

Thank you so much for writing and giving love!!! I thought I might share the story behind Goodlife with all of you :) I started out writing it 3 years ago, but at that time it was just an embryo. Time passed by and a couple of months from now I decided I wanted to finish it. I just couldn’t let it go during all those years; it was something about it that stuck with me. I went to London and met up with Cathy Dennis, an amazing person and songwriter, and we started out talking about the song. She listened to it and as we were writing we gave new life to the song and for me everything fell into place. Then we tried out like thousand different production. OMG I even did a hip-hop version :DD But I knew I wanted strings, I’m a sucker for strings. I wanted it to feel romantic in an old fashion way. Some songs just write themselves and fast, and some songs grows on you, you need to put it away and after some years you can bring it out in the light again and you see it with new eyes.

Love Agnes

Stripped Down EP of reworkings:

I Trance is just stunning in whatever form.

I *think* Silence is a new song, so presumably a non-stripped version will follow.
