Awards Season 2021

I mean the speeches have gone on for a bit rather than the customary getting played off by the band.
 
Not that it’s not deserved but lol
 
What a disaster to close the show on that, not Anthony winning but he wasn’t even there. This is as fun as when they had the mix up a few years ago.
 
Also Frances is now tied with Meryl (slightly ahead even since her 3 wins are in lead).
 
Announcing Best Actor last was such a WEIRD choice, knowing both of the contenders in a two-horse race would not be there.

Nowhere near as fun as that :(

I knew it would be a different show, but it was just... odd. I like the traditional style. I never liked the same montages of the SAME films every year, or weird celebrations of random films - like when they got the Twilight cast to come on to introduce a celebration of Horror films that one year for no reason. But I still like a good old comedian with a proper opening monologue, acting clips and music :(

I appreciated that their point of view was to celebrate the people who made the movies and do a stripped down show to allow the speeches to go on BUT then you swerve at the end with a comedy bit out of nowhere and an In Memorian that focuses on Chadwick and then switch the awards order cause you’re gambling on him winning the best actor and you think it’ll be a good tribute. You can’t have it both ways.
 
It didn’t help that even though I had watched all of the films, clips really DO help. When you’ve got shorts and documentaries with winning speeches talking about the subjects of those films, the general audience who hasn’t seen them wants to have SOME idea over what they’re seeing win an award. Or little vignettes over make-up and costume design etc. showcasing their work.

Again, in a year where there have been zero big hits due to having no cinemas and the films nominated have barely been seen by anyone despite lots of them being available on streaming services, this stuff helps to promote them.
