Billie Eilish - Hit Me Hard and Soft (3rd album)

I was a bit late to this - I didn;t pick it up until I saw it in HMVs 3 for £66 offer but sue me the vinyl was expensive and the CD still is. It's heartening to see such a bold album being this popular. Side 2 is amazing, the way it flows together as a suite and that's a risk in todays song-by-song market. Easily better than HTE and on a par with ..Asleep.. despite having very little in common with the latter except for a sense of economy.

This has happened many times at the Grammys - record and song of the year are based on when the track was officially released as a single, not the album it’s from.

I think it has become more confusing in the age of streaming, which is what Pipo was getting at. For instance, it charted for pretty much the entire year in 2024, purely based off its streaming popularity. But yes it was officially pushed as a radio single in 2025 (whatever that means these days) and therefore was able to qualify as a “new” song this year. It didn’t really reach a new peak or level of popularity though with the radio release, which is why it seems a bit odd as a 2026 Grammy winner. The “single” format is basically dead in the age of streaming. I think it’s time for the Grammy’s to update their rules since non singles are eligible anyway (and Wildflower had most of its momentum in 2024 , although BOAF arguably overshadowed it then)

For ages, a track earned "single" status through official announcements in magazines and promo materials, plus promo CDs, CD-Rs, and most crucially, a proper music video. But since streaming took over, anything goes; literally any song can be dubbed a single.

The latest example? Taylor Swift declared "Opalite" her new "radio single" months after it peaked via endless TikToks and right after Grammy season. It reeks of the same gimmick, and you can bet we'll see her touting it at the 2027 ceremony.

I saved that sour face to respond to stupid texts

I’m just imagining some gay getting the gig of his LIFE photographing Eilish for Elle and after 20 minutes of the same death stare he’s ready to give it all up and go work in Wendy’s

I mean she seems like a fun gal but man she can ruin a photoshoot like no other
