That’s not being a TERF. We shouldn’t get hysterical every time someone says they believe that trans women shouldn’t compete in physical sports. I don’t think that that is automatically being anti-trans and is actually counter productive to the larger issue of trans people being given a fair shake in society. Sports is such a tiny tiny part of the wider issue.

I believe if activists want to die on this cross of trans rights including the non-flexible issue of trans people playing in physical sports, trans people are never ever going to get the widespread support they need to be treated the same as everyone else. Why can’t we keep the sports issue as separate? It’s incredibly complex. Treating trans people with respect and kindness and getting equal rights is equally as un-complex. Or at least, it should be.
 
well first of all he just called trans women "men" which is a super obvious terfy dogwhistle and not a good faith engagement with the transgenderism and sport argument.

but also, he agrees with Linehan "some of the time" - on what, if not hating on trans women? that's all the man does.
 
Oh without the context I read that wrong. If he’s calling trans women men, then yeah that’s bad.

There are a few reasons why i’m inclined not to give an inch to the women’s sports debate:

1. They have actively identified this as a wedge issue - transphobes know that this is an issue that helps to win people around to their point of view which is why it is constantly discussed.

2. Frustratingly the transphobes completely ignore the biological impact of hormones of people’s bodies. A woman playing a sport against a trans woman is not the same as playing that sport against a man because hormones have hugely transformative impacts on the body. There is the argument that even trans women on hormones have been through male puberty and have longer limbs and bigger hands, etc - firstly, cisgender women also vary in size (!), and secondly, these trans women might not have have gone through male puberty if you had just let them access the puberty blockers that you’re also desperate for them not to have.

3. Like so many arguments against the trans community - there is so little evidence that trans inclusion is having any substantive impact on women’s sports - especially when you consider the amount of airtime this gets. Trans women athletes are not dominating their fields by any means. Lia Thomas is a pretty solitary example and she won a single medal. The Olympic weightlifter didn’t get on the podium. The available evidence also doesn’t support a general claim of inherent athletic advantage.

4. The issue has resulted in professional bodies taking sweeping preemptive action that is mainly having a horrendous and cruel impact on a tiny handful of trans people playing grassroots sports in their communities - often within teams of other women that are perfectly happy for them to be there. I believe the FA decision singled out such a small number of trans women that you could fit them in a standard tube carriage. This warrants a case by case basis approach rather than blanket bans that fuck up people’s lives.

5. And FINALLY - and I say this as someone who properly follows women’s football and goes to games - the people being the loudest about this DO NOT GIVE A SINGLE FUCK about women’s sports!

Hmm, I'm not so sure about Chaka. I think I recall her liking an Instagram rant about trans people by Macy Gray a couple of years ago.

I know it happened in July 2022. I remember blocking Khan on Instagram at the time when I saw it. She's still blocked. Maybe she's educated herself since then. I know Macy Gray has.

I'm not even remotely bothered about whether you believe me or not though. Also try not to be so condescending.
