This Star Academie perf is so fabulous because the other bitch is not fit to cut Rene Charles hair let alone sing with QUEEN CELINE

The audience were totally losing their French shit

OMG I just realised I am totally obsessed with Celine

She is my new big thing

*listens to Us 17x on repeat*

Such a loverly melody and vocal indeed, even though I generally dislike ridiculously hyperbole lyrics à la "I'd turn myself to gold if you would love me again" (don't make promises you can't keep, love). In her English-language output only "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" comes close.

Seeing as we're talking about Queen C, let's take a moment to show love for the #1 French-language track in the game

Fuck you Moi... Lolita!

Je m'inventerais REINE
Pour que TU me RETIENNES

:disco:

It absolutely is my favourite French language track of all time. I lived there when it was out too and it's difficult for us ROSBIFS to understand the impact it had there- truly one of the biggest singles in history, from the biggest album of all time, lest we forget.

I adore it, it must be in my top 20 or so singles ever and the lyrics are beautiful. She draws such emotion from it as well and it's "edgy" video (well, for Celine) just adds to the sheer TERROR, HORROR and MELODRAMA of it all.

And I still think

Je me changerais en OR
Pour que tu m'aimes ENCORE

Is one of the saddest lyrics of ALL TIME EVER :(

D'eux really was the 21 of its day :disco:

I love that in France Céline is treated as a borrowed national treasure. She's all but forgotten in the UK, except as a purveyor of 90s power ballads. :(

I think I might launch an abridged Céline rate. Just the BIG TRACKS... I don't have the knowledge to do the obscure ones.

D'Eux was WAY bigger than 21, comparatively speaking...it's sold over 4 million copies in a country where selling a million is a RIDICULOUS RARITY

Does this look comprehensive ENOUGH?

Ne partez pas sans moi
Where Does My Heart Beat Now?
The Last To Know
Beauty & The Beast
If You Asked Me To
Love Can Move Mountains
The Power of Love
Misled
Think Twice
Only One Road
Calling You
Pour que tu m'aimes encore
Je sais pas
To Love You More
Falling Into You
Because You Loved Me
It's All Coming Back To Me Now
All By Myself
Call The Man
Tell Him
The Reason
My Heart Will Go On
Immortality
I'm Your Angel
S'il suffisait d'aimer
On ne change pas
The Prayer
Treat Her Like A Lady
That's The Way It Is
The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face
A New Day Has Come
I'm Alive
Goodbye's (The Saddest Word)
I Drove All Night
One Heart
Et s'il n'en restait qu'une (je serai celle-là)
Taking Chances
Alone
Parler à mon père

There needs to be some appreciation for A CAUSE.

I only played D'elles in full a couple of times but that one is fucking AMAZING.

Submit your requests while I'm asleep boys

But let's keep it reasonably ACCESSIBLE

I'd also include

D'amour ou d'amitié (big big hit in France)
If There Was Any Other Way
Nothing Broken But My Heart
Un Garçon Pas Comme Les Autres (Ziggy)
Zora Sourit (also a major French hit at the time, despite its chart position)
Sous Le Vent
Tout L'or Des Hommes

And get rid of "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face"- a much lesser hit than those you've left out.

I can't say I listen to this an awful lot

It's personally not one of my all time favourites or anything

But even I can't deny that this track is a 10/10 pop song. Both versions.

funks you just need to fall head over heels in love with someone who is briefly into you then doesn't give a fuck!

I bought D’Eux on vinyl a few weeks back and it’s made me fall in love with it all over again. It’s truly a fantastic album.

Of which this is its absolute jewel. Though it holds such memories for me, it succeeds by just being fucking brilliant. She wrings every bit of emotion out of it and lyrically it’s her absolute best. Well not hers, obviously, thank you Jean- Jacques. I do think he brings the absolute best out in her.

Celine was also voted second favourite female singer ever in a big French tv poll the other night, just behind France Gall and ahead of Mylène in third.

Love this now. Not reservedly or with any kind of condition - it’s a perfect pop song. I love both versions but the French one has a more emotive vocal.

I do think the song title is better in English though!

Shock Omg GIF

I love the English version, it's just the one I'm used to. Celine whisper-gasping "baby" et al is still utterly hypnotic.
