CMAT - Running/Planning & New Album EURO-COUNTRY

LOVE the album after a few listens. Lord, Let That Tesla Crash and When A Good Man Cries are the new highlights

Iceberg is RUINED by her parroting the basic people talking point that Rose could have made room for Jack on that door

I’m so pleased I bought the shopping centre version :disco: at 11:36pm last night

I bought this. Put it straight back on after the first listen. Then put it straight back on yet again. Excellent album.

Finally given this a few listens. Aside from the already mentioned Good Man and Tesla, Tree Six Foive is another fave of mine. She is just such an exciting pop star and it doesnt even feel like she has peaked yet. Can't wait for what comes next.

She's Mercury nominated again.

Taking a sexy picture on late night:

Maybe I would have gone with a different song for this but love that she always gives FULL CMAT

She performed Good Man Cries on Colbert this week

And revealed on the Brits red carpet that Jamie Oliver has started following her on instagram

she had a few metres of polyester fringe and a dream.

bless Jamie for being game for this. the video probably needed another setup but it's good fun

She premiered this at the (fantastic) Ally Pally gig on Friday. Along with bringing out Harry Hill dressed as a dart board for a game of darts. She's such a star!

I like the vid when it goes off in the final 3rd, but yeah they could and should have had done more with having him in it.

fantastic BTS - she shot this on her birthday and met Jamie for the first time in full costume :D :disco:

very classy words from her (reported in the Guardian today) but this is sad.
“It is literally so boring for me, a gorgeous genius, to keep having to yap on about how horribly I am treated because of my body,” she wrote.

“I would love to stop but I cannot because it keeps happening, at an accelerating and worsening pace as I become more famous.”

CMAT shared screengrabs of a Substack essay by a music fan going by Front Row Feels, which “summed up a lot of what is causing my deep sadness,” she wrote. The essay compared the treatment of CMAT with fellow Big Weekend acts Zara Larsson and Olivia Dean, who didn’t appear to be subjected to the same level of abuse online.

“What struck me most while scrolling through those toxic comment sections was the glaring disparity in how different women on that same lineup were treated,” Front Row Feels wrote, adding that Larsson and Dean “were granted a level of grace and basic humanity that was completely denied to CMAT”.

CMAT pointed out to “well-meaning” commenters that her body size was not a choice: “I am not being defiant. I am not choosing to look like this or weigh this much as some kind of punk rock act of liberty. I simply have a body, one that I would of course like to change in order to fit in and avoid all of this abuse, but I have had extreme difficulty in doing so. I don’t get a say in whether or not I want to be brave, I simply have to sit here and take it.”

She said that though she was grateful for her success, it is “increasingly becoming tarnished by the fact that I would be allowed to enjoy it so much more if I was thin”.

“There is no relief from this – nobody can protect me or save me from this, and all that is demanded of me is more and more work as every environment I am placed in becomes more hostile,” she wrote.

Saw her for the first time last night in Dublin at her biggest headline show to date (20k+)

TREMENDOUS! QUEEN! NATIONAL TREASURE!

Full song:

I maintain "I waited for love/With a cricket bat" is one of the best opening lyrics ever

Her substack newsletter about the past week is great:

physically? i am currently in a hotel room in Aarhus, Denmark, preparing to play Northside festival tomorrow. i am dyeing my hair , doing a bit of tan to take the blue tint off my skin, thinning my eyebrows, and thinking about a hair/makeup/stagewear look i can do that will cover up the inevitable red stains on my ears and back of my neck. the Danish, i find, are very serious about girly things, and i am bracing myself for the fact that Artist Liaison will be genuinely concerned that i do not constantly have access to a team of people who will do all these things properly for me. so hide the evidence i must!

mentally? I am here:

i simply cannot stop watching this video. as a songwriter it is pretty much your wildest dream for a brilliant popstar at the top of their game to interpret one of your songs, and that is exactly what happened. i am creating an image in my head of bob dylan flicking through the telly channels to stumble upon Cher doing this- https://youtu.be/4Q-1F5s57qs?is=X5JrqOBTuow0jHsc

now, imagine me waking up in my bed in a tshirt id worn for almost 4 days in a row (depression) and then 10 minutes later hearing Olivia’s cover go out on radio 1. my brain currently feels like it is trying to cram concepts the size of elephants through a keyhole. that is to say it has been melted.

and, you know, i’m not gonna sit here and drag up all of the events of the week previous to you- mainly because it has already been covered in almost every online news site in Ireland and the UK already, but her gift to me could not have come at a better time. being the target of a quasi-organised online attack due to the algorithm throwing me in the timeline of men who don’t want to see or hear me… well for one thing it does something to the brain. i didnt really leave my room for 5 days because i just wanted to tap out of other peoples’ ability to see me. and truthfully, it was really difficult to have to go home to dublin and play my biggest headline show ever smack bang in the middle of the discourse. st. anne’s was of course incredible, but certainly i was concerned about my weight and ability to sing/ perform properly wayyy too much for a thoroughly joyous homecoming.

then this gift landed in my lap. thank FUCK .

i love Olivia- i was at her glasto set (when she brought out robert smith!!!) and i also saw her in the 3arena on her guts tour (which really moved me because i happened to be surrounded by 8 year old girls absolutely WAILING all of the words to traitor. in my book to bring the demon of a hypothetical future heartbreak out of a small girl is an important spiritual act). i think get him back! was one of the best songs released that year, and that her new song The Cure is one of the most impressive lyrics i have heard from a 23 year old maybe ever .

as such it made sense that she would smash any cover she sang but truly, she knocked Good Man out of the park. the vocals, the melody alterations, the enunciation (i could NEVER), even just putting the counter backing vocals from 2nd verse onto a string line…. it was all just so considered and exquisitely , exquisitely done.

there is also a secret joy woven into the fabric of all this, which is me in my head trying to compute the visual of the stunning and stunningly famous popstar singing a song that i remember writing. only i can remember the why/where/when in its entirety, and in its fullness. this is true of all my songs. i remember her when she was just a little baby learning to crawl, with too many verses and lyrical tangents. it’s as if suddenly i am watching my precious toddler graduate from college, but all i can remember is her toilet training.

so thank you Olivia Rodrigo for making me feel like the prettiest songwriter at the school disco. i don’t know what i did to deserve anything but i have been firmly reminded of what my job is and am now off to write 1 million more weird songs.

lots of love, remember to believe in yourselves and all that other hippy nonsense,

cmat x x x

ps i am now doing a mask aswell

Olivia was stupendously brilliant on When On Good Man Cries omg. the last minute? fuck :disco: she (Olivia) is more musically talented than her material so far. they should duet.

I never really hammered this album that much beyond the title track for whatever reason and I'm really enjoying it lately. talk about melodically bulletproof. it's not even possible to choose favourites, there are 6 or 7 proper 10s here.
