How does she EAT? I know the first album sold well but I can't imagine the Don't Be a Stranger royalties set her up for life, unless she has another business and/or married well?

I'm slightly suspicious when the update includes "in 2016 she made a triumphant return to the stage in a series of live shows labelled the “David Guest is alive not dead tour’"

Perhaps they mean “Triumphant” in the Mariah far-from-smash-hit-single sense!

It appears she played a gig in Hull in 2016. That must have brought in a cool £60

I assume most faded stars of her ilk go on to make their living on the PA circuit, songwriting or transitioning into a media career. But unless I've missed something, she doesn't seem to have done a single thing besides that brief 2016 'revival'.

Obviously if she has ongoing health problems, that's sadly going to limit her opportunities. But it's always odd when fairly high profile people just fully disappear.

She should have made a ton off of the first album if the contract was right.

I think she's a lost cause on the nostalgia circuit though because no one remembers who she is. The songs have resonated perhaps, but she certainly hasn't

I always seem to see posters for Beverley Craven concerts around Yorkshire (or I did before Coronavirus).

If that utter one-hit wonder can still sell out a community centre or two, surely our Dina could as well?

Promise Me was bigger than anything Dina turned out though, certainly in terms of mind share. I'm sure I couldn't pick her out in a police line up though :D

I think I'd spot Geraldine over Beverley.

Well, as long as she wore that head scarf thing, anyway.

Imagine being her and no longer being the most famous Dina in the country :(

Yes and I think it was a hit internationally... plus she had another hit didn't she?

I do hope these Beverly Craven posters are bits of paper stuck to lampposts and say "I sang Promise Me (yes that one!)" on them.

Dina should re-emerge with a joint tour with Lisa Stansfield.

Promise Me is probably more remembered than any Dina track individually I'd say, but it was hardly a global smash. And I imagine Dina probably shifted more albums. That first one was proper huge, wasn't it?

Either way, I don't think there's so much between them in terms of footprint today.

Talking of joint tours.. When I was in Leeds last year (I thought it was perfectly charming), I remember finding KY Kelly plastered on a kind of billboard. That would be quite the local draw I'm sure.

Can’t believe this thread has been ruined

I reiterate my question from 2016, HOW IS SHE EATING/PAYING HER MORTGAGE?

Two of her three biggest hits (It's Too Late, Escaping) were covers! She can't be earning shit from them!

Wikipedia states that Don't Be A Stranger was originally sung by Chyna, but this is not mentioned on the actual song's page and I can't find this alleged version on YouTube. I guess if she earned at least a pound per album she'd be fine and perhaps she's really frugal.

Which page is that mentioned? Can’t see anything on the song or parent album pages.

Her debut album sold 1.5 million in the UK and she wrote the majority of the tracks, so she should be ok.

Still love the thought that ‘Ain’t no man’ is a lesbian anthem.

Her main page under "success".

One of the tracks on the album, "Don't Be a Stranger", a cover version of a song originally recorded by Chyna, was the sixth single from the album, but a new version was recorded for the single release, with the London Session Orchestra providing strings for a new backing track.

The wrestler?

Honestly, hearing the 2 versions of Escaping the other night was very interesting. I do think Dina's is the more accomplished, but vocally that original one was gorge (RIP poor thing).
