A little appreciation please for the absolute pop perfection that was 'He Loves U Not'.

Should have been MUCH bigger in the UK. I'm not entirely sure what went wrong, it was A-List on Radio 1. But I remember the single was fairly expensive and had a crap tracklist.

I have the Dream album. It's very fillerish, but I have much love for slightly bland US Followup single This Is Me with its bizarre video (Why the man in the giant dog suit?), and In My Dreams and Pain are both regular MP3 spins for me too.

Also I think the short haired girl looks more than a little bit like Robyn.

This Is Me:

He Loves U Not was amazing imo, never heard anything else from them. I was shocked when I found out Radio 1 A-listed it - in fact they A-listed it ages before the release, so they probably thought a guaranteed top3 hit, if not a #1. Big shame!

I don't recall them doing much UK Promo. Maybe that's what killed it. It was HUGE in America.

I reckon it's one of those songs that loads of people would remember if you played it to them.

Fucking amazing song. Weren't they managed by P Diddy (or whatever he was called then)?

It was bound to be a big hit in America due to the P Diddy connection. Also it had the typical pop sound of late 2000/2001, like Jessica Simpsons "Irresistible", Mandy Moore "In My Pocket" and Willa Ford "I Wanna Be Bad"

Alas, In My Pocket was not a hit.

Even though it SHITS on fucking I Wanna Be Bad.

Was 'He Loves U Not...' covered by someone else? I am sure i have heard a different version than their's.

He Loves U Not still gets REGULAR PLAY from me

Although I always thought the climax of the song should have been bigger - the whole 'give it your all girl, give it all you got' bit should have ended with the lead singer doing a BIG WAIL and explosions in the video

Yes it sounds generic but it ALWAYS WORKS

yeah i bought this CD, it was 3.99! Outrageous looking back on it.

"I Don't Like Anyone" , "Pain" , "This is Me" are also good things.

Apparently Miss You and In My Dreams were planned to be the third and fourth singles, but they didn't bother cos of September 11th.

Miss You is pretty dull and I can't imagine it would have been a huge hit, but I really like In My Dreams.

This just came on. Absolute banger.

Very weird it relatively flopped in the UK given its success in the US and down under at the time (when big pop songs tended to do similar business in each), but possibly due to lack of promo and the price? For a #17 to get four weeks top 40 back then was actually rather decent rather than the standard 17-31-out run so it seemed like it was liked but just couldn’t take hold.

But still, fabulous. A Britney version at the time would’ve sat on her self-titled album in a lovely fashion.

It was definitely hurt by the expensive single. Odd choice.

Are any of them still in the business?

They were planning a comeback some years ago but it never materialised properly. Melissa, the blonde one, recently accused Nick Carter from BSB of rape when she was 18. He’s currently countersuing her.

He seems to have had a habit of that with blondes. Weirdly he’s one that has (so far) never gotten cancelled for it
