If ever an album could be described INDUSTRAIL POP it's this little gem. Poppier and yet still with that edge of the first album... I can't think of a group IMO that have produced two perfect albums from the start of their careers like this... I went for this one over 'Garbage' because of it's shiny pop edge...

Such a shame how it ALL WENT TITS UP
 
Garbage have become SO EASY to LAMENT.

Just have a LISTEN to the first two albums and wipe the LAST DECADE out your MIND
 
So true. I meant to vote 7 by the way - it could even be an 8 if the mood takes me.

I finally bought Bleed Like Me last week - I really shouldn't have bothered.
 
I bought the last few for completest purposes but there was no need really... Really only a couple of listenable songs out the last two... Although the remix album is worth the cash

2.0 was a quality album filled with tune after tune! i remember buying it on a whim on cassette for 4.99 - then on cd later on.
 
It's good enough but I prefer the debut, probably due to the lack of shiny pop edge.
 
loved it back then, haven't played it in ages, much like most of their early output
the later stuff never really loved
 
I loved and STILL LOVE this album. Shirley Manson does the whole angry/pained thing SO WELL.

Also I actually think BeautifulGarbage is almost as good as the first two. Bleed Like Me is the only really lacklustre effort, and even that has the marvellous 'It's All Over But The Crying'.

Oh come on. Listen to the BILE in Special, and then the way she murmurs "I thought you were special".
 
I really can't see it. I can understand where you're coming from, but "pained" is possibly my favourite vocal expression and it's not happening here.
 
I MUCH prefer the first album

It was like everything that was RIGHT about the mid-90s
 
Fantastic stuff. Ideal mix of uptempo and downtempo, both done brilliantly.
When I Grow Up contains some of Garbage's more rubbish lyrics, but the track is so energetic and catchy it's forgiven.
The Trick Is To Keep Breathing...DIVINE. Should have been a single.


Only dud is Hammering In My Head, it never seems to go anywhere.
 
Is this the one including Stupid Girl (which was a reference to Mariah Carey, I believe)?

Not keen on how the last paragraph pretty much dismisses everything they did subsequently, but otherwise a good read.
 
The idea that the Beautiful album failed because 9/11 meant people wanted guitars is QUITE a take

I could sort of see what she was getting at in terms of mainstream rock music going much scuzzier in the 00s with the likes of The Strokes and The Libertines, but as she acknowledges earlier, Garbage were never particularly beloved of the NME/Rolling Stone crowd anyway.
 
It's true that they weren't following the zeitgeist at the time, but the connection to 9/11 just sends me

And yes, totally misunderstands who Garbage's market was. They were never chasing the New York garage rock crowd.
