As I become increasingly middle aged it does more for me than it did on release (see also: Untouchable), but it's not one of their singles I get massively excited about. Bit plodding innit.

For me a Pet Shop Boys / Xenomania / Girls Aloud collab should really be a bit stronger.
 
I’ve always found it a bit jarring because straight women don’t generally buy their boyfriends flowers and pour them wine. It’s clearly in Neil’s voice and lacks the necessary SASS. Also it’s a bit too passive and needy for GA

The post chorus (is that what’s it’s called?) with the ‘I’d do ANYTHING…’ part is one of their finest moments on record.

But as a whole it’s very slightly too flat to be a full ten.
 
It's got LOVELY TWINKLY production, and Nicola steals it.

But yeah, it only really works with the sarcy video. The wine hurling and Kimba's eye rolls change the message to a much more believable one.
 
I have always loved this - one of their best singles for me. Understated and haunting and different for them.
 
I like it but I always think of it as a weaker Call The Shots.
 
For many a moon it was my #2 GA ever, behind Call The Shots, but time has faded it to top ten. It’s still top drawer, though.

It always ruins it a bit for me that they didn’t ever really seem to comprehend just WHAT made them great, as irrelevant as it is. I know underneath they were only vessels, but Jesus ladies, come on.
