Oh and I did like that they didn't try to make the witches sympathetic as the core plot point - watching that prologue I thought it was going to heavy-handedly try to use the patriarchy to humanise the sisters too much, considering they are child-killers 
But it was only used to give a bit of basis and emotional weight in their last scenes. (even if the way the reunion spell worked was a bit too convenient to tie up the film)
