Icona Pop - Dance To This (1 Viewer)

This came on my Spotify the other day and I saw the name Icona Pop and assumed it was 10 years old. I didn't realise it was NEW.

But yes, BOP (spoken as a connoisseur of music 10 years old and and older)

Dance To This is really great. Their other recent two singles are pretty good too:

The one with Daya is quite Tove Lo but generally these songs feel more in line with their older material. The quality control was not there on the last album.

I've never actually listened to them other than I Love It but OK let's go.

Dance to This isn't doing it for me. Ritual though is a bit of a banger when it gets going. something about songs with this title... can only one of them sing? is that why so much spoken word? the spoken parts are bad.

Yellow Top slaps - there's something very mid 10s blog pop about how it pops off :disco: I hear the early Tove comparisons

considering how good some of the single artwork is - what a nightmare album cover :D

WHO APPROVED THAT

I very much recommend their original local Swedish release debut album. It sounds of its time but some great stuff all the same:

It is unfortunately not currently on streaming, they replaced most of it with inferior new material for the international version.

The oldest songs on the album are especially good (Sun Goes Down is a team effort with The Knocks AND St Lucia, Manners, Nights Like This, Lovers To Friends), they were a bit of a different prospect pre-I Love It.

Yellow Top is amazing. I've been bopping to it for weeks now, I think due to the fact that it doesn't sound like an Icona Pop song and their schtick began to wear thin after 2015. I'm amazed they're still signed; are they a niche act that has built a small but loyal fanbase?

album out NOW!

diving in. Hurt is a lush opener. the outro pop-off! :disco:

A cute little short and sweet. Hurt is great and the singles do pop.

Foreverness and Mad Love especially really are reminiscent of their very early releases. It is also interesting that Tove Lo actually has a co-write credit on Didn't Mean It Like That. I think she could be there in the vocal mix as well, but they sound pretty similar to her elsewhere so she may not be.

I swear thought I heard Tove’s voice before even reading or knowing this! It makes sense now!

That’s a solid little album! Hurt is so instant. Foreverness is another favourite along with Yellow Top. And Dance To This still destroys EVERYTHING :disco:
