JADE - It Girl

Midweek #15 so perhaps she can cling on for a second top 40 at least.

Has her team learned from the Fantasy flop and lined up a rapid release of some physicals?

I doubt it because this isn’t an official single apparently.

The concept of a standalone release not being considered an "official single" in today's predominantly digital era feels more like a strange notion. Does it need a Woolies sticker on it?

I had read that the ‘third single’ is coming near the album release. Maybe I’ve used the terminology of official single incorrectly.

On the one hand I find this song to be piss-weak, so I’m more than fine with it being a throwaway instant grat. But it does feel (to me at least) like the pre-release promo implied that this was the next single.

Also a bit weird when she really needs a proper hit after Fantasy’s slow burn success. :eyes:

This made #50 on Spotify yesterday, which despite being top of #NMF I wasn't really expecting that?

This IS the third singal ? Midnight Fantasy was the instant grat?

No instant grats, the album's not up for pre-order yet. Midnight Cowboy and It Girl are just buzz tracks with the 3rd official single Fuck You For Now due in February (allegedly)

So the term 'single' and what that is has essentially been rendered entirely meaningless?

The question I think is whether it picks up airplay. If it does, then it’s a single whether they call it one or not. Especially if it already has a video.

I think with artists still finding their feet, the approach is to release songs without ‘single’ expectation and gauge feedback. If it kicks off well or builds some streaming numbers, get behind it. If it doesn’t, move on to the next one.

She did 1m in 2 days on Spotify which by her standards doesn't sound that bad?

I'm not sure I fancy her chances of staying top 40 given that she fell out of the 200 on day two and hasn't re-entered on day 3. She's down to #16 on iTunes as well and seemingly falling fast. Didn't AOMD hang around the upper echelons for quite while?

Then again it can often only be a few hundred 'sales' separating 20 places on the singles chart, so if the climate is favourable she may hold on.

A fast fall from a decent debut speaks of an act that has a faithful core following but isn't crossing over.

Well she did always say she was doing this just for her and her fans!

Magnified further if you're #1 on New Music Friday. And the peak is probably higher than she may otherwise have got as well.

If she's happy with doing it for the FANS, then throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks is fine.

I can't say I'm very confident the album has any stone cold hits on it after all this though.

Angel of my Dreams had a decent run in the top 40, so I'd say that genuinely crossed over to a degee. The momentum does seem to be rapidly ebbing away though. :(
